Meet Ashley Griffith | Actor, Film Producer, Music Artist, Model, & Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Griffith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think that people aren’t aware of the work that happens behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. Modeling, acting, and music become a lifestyle, not just a job. For every film you see and song you hear, there are hours, days, months, and sometimes even years of work that went into it. As far as modeling goes, it’s not just showing up, taking a pretty picture or looking good in clothes. Good models have spent countless hours practicing poses, facial expressions, their walk, etc. With each of these fields, you have to learn how to be an entrepreneur, a chameleon, a story teller, and a person who can walk the line between malleable and unwavering.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actor, model, singer, dancer, graphic designer, and film producer. I was classically trained in opera sing in many different genres, including musical theater, pop, and R&B. I also can do multiple different styles of dance. However, I’m mostly a shuffler. I have been singing most of my life. I actually fell into the modeling and acting in 2022, and the film producing at the tail end of 2023 (I’m in the process of producing my first film). I have gotten to where I am through constant practice (I have made my runway walk my everyday walk, can’t walk past a mirror without practicing face expressions or emotional expression, etc.), many late nights, positive and educational connections, and a bit of luck. It has happened much quicker than I think any of us expected, but it definitely has not come easy. I have overcome the challenges with the support of my family, friends, and manager, a past that has taught me how to persevere when things get hard, and a sheer love for what I do. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is to become comfortable with the word “No;” to get on friendly terms with criticism and rejection. The entertainment industry, especially modeling and acting, is really the only industry where it is legal (and very common) to “discriminate” when hiring. I’ve heard that I didn’t get a job because I’m too large, too small, not the right color, not the right height, too old, etc. It’s important to take these critiques with a grain of sand and understand that booking a job may not depend on talent alone. You also have to fit their look. Also, sometimes a “No,” is just a “Not right now.” Therefore, it’s imperative to learn to deal with rejection in a positive and respectful manner. I want the world to know that I’m an example of life holding many beautiful surprises. I never expected to be a model. In fact, the coworker who got me into modeling did so when we were in a conversation about how unphotogenic I was (while laughing at the proof). However, it turns out to be something I’m really good at. I did my first photoshoot at 28 years old, so I’m proof that it’s never really too late to find your calling. I have also worked really hard to overcome some past demons, so I want the world, especially those dealing with substance addiction, mental illness, or eating disorders to know that it does get better if you put the work in! Resilience is sexy and your health is one of the best investments you can make.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m actually new to my city. I moved to Atlanta about 5 months ago. Therefore, I would show look up places to discover together. I absolutely would take them to different parts of the Beltline though.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank Roderick McCord, the owner of Speakyamindz Talent Agency. Since becoming my manager, he has helped me grow into a true upcoming talent, informed me of how to move within the industry, and supported me with a fierce belief in my capabilities. I would also like to thank my parents who have always supported me in everything I do, and taught me how to persevere.
