Meet Arianna Hume & Cassidy Gephart | Co-Owners & Co-Founders

We had the good fortune of connecting with Arianna Hume & Cassidy Gephart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arianna Hume & Cassidy Gephart, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Our goal with Liberty Music Academy is to equip the next generation of music makers with the tools and skills needed to become competent musicians professionally in life. Through our unique blend of private and group learning, our students learn valuable skills including confidence in communal settings, leadership among their peers, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback in a kind and supportive way, all of which can be used in both musical and non-musical settings throughout their lives! Truly, we are teaching our students who live and thrive primarily within the communities of Nashville, Nolensville, and Brentwood how to cooperate in harmony with those around them by employing the skills they learn through their music education at LMA!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from others is our passion for providing a realistic and comprehensive music education to students ages 5-18. We as founders and owners are both full-time working musicians outside of running LMA, and we make it a point to hire teachers with the same background. With this being the case, we can ensure that our students are receiving real-life learning that will actually play a huge part in them being able to provide for themselves as full time musicians later on in life. We make sure to incorporate up to date technology and gear that is being used on stage every day all across the world so our students are learning skills that can be put into action immediately once they’re ready to pursue a career (or just a hobby!) in music. We use each lesson, group class, performance opportunity, and ensemble to help our students reach their potential in whatever musical avenue they choose to pursue (performers, songwriters, composers, arrangers, etc) since we understand from firsthand experience that the music industry requires a multitude of skills in order to sustain a full career. We can fully say that we have experienced the shortcomings we wish we’d been better educated on before entering in the field of music, and we also know what worked for us to be able to succeed as full time freelancers. Therefore, we are always looking for new and better ways to approach a type of music education that highlights the good and fills in any needed gaps.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, come visit LMA in Nolensville and see how our approach to music education is put into play each and every day! We would love to give you a tour 🙂
Aside from that, here are some of our favorite weekly spots to visit:
Arrington Vineyards – Arrington is one of Arianna’s favorite places to pack a blanket and picnic for a beautiful day outside, while enjoying the beautiful landscape of TN!
Nashville Public Library (Main Library) – The Church St. library location has one of the BEST kids sections Arianna has ever seen! They have a ton of awesome games, reading nooks, presentations, and other fun things for kiddos to enjoy during the day.
Thai Food on Nolensville – Degthai, Sriracha Thai, and Siam Cafe all on Nolensville PIke (right down the road from LMA!) are some of Arianna & Cassidy’s favorite food spots to visit.
Flamingo Cocktail Club – This spot is one of Cassidy’s favorite places in Nashville! The owner, Angela Laino, created this space with the intention of the space being fluid throughout the week. During the day, the front portion of the building, which goes by “Falcon” is open for coffee and vegan cuisine. At night, Flamingo is open for dancing, comedy, live music (DJ, local musicians, and more), various events, yoga, and so much more! Most notably, Flamingo hosts an improvised jam every Wednesday called “The Invite,” which brings together a host of local and touring musicians on a weekly basis. This jam is a space where musicians can network, learn, and grow with each other. There is definitely no other place to be on a Wednesday night in Nashville!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The organization we’d love to shout out in this series is the little white church that gave us our start – Liberty United Methodist Church in Brentwood, TN. LMA would not have been possible without their willingness to give us a space to experiment and grow in an organic way. What started as 2 young women teaching 10-15 students at LUMC during the week has turned into 2 competent business owners in their own commercial space with an ever-growing team of teachers and staff all dedicated to the musical growth of our expanding student body.
