Meet Andrew Fleming | Drummer for The Aquaducks

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Fleming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think I can speak for all of us when I say that music has always been the #1 pursuit for everyone in the band. We all met at Belmont in the music program and were all singularly focused on having a career in music. The feeling of playing for a room –or field- full of people who are on the same page and digging what you are putting out is unlike any other. It’s addictive honestly. Whether you’re headlining dive bars or amphitheaters, playing the smallest stage or largest stage at festivals, that feeling is what everyone does it for. We may not be headlining Nissan Stadium any time soon, but interacting with people from literally all over the world who have covered our songs, bought our merch, or just enjoy our live shows is an incredibly gratifying feeling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Honestly we have a very unique sound for Nashville. We are a Funk/Jam oriented band, which is hard to find here. We are most proud of the large tours we’ve booked ourselves, and heroes we’ve gotten to open for including George Porter Jr,, The Motet, Goose, California Honeydrops, and Billy Strings to name a few. We are also very excited about our new music that is currently being released!
We’ve definitely had a long road that has brought us to where we are now. It has definitely not been easy, with lots of weekends committed to the band while working full time jobs. We have put a ton of blood sweat and tears into this project over the years. Some of the lessons we’ve learned is that no one will represent or advocate for us better than ourselves. We’ve had multiple booking agents over the years, but our best shows and tours were booked by us.
We just mostly want the world to know that we have put a ton of time into the new recordings that we’re releasing now, and we sound better than ever. Supporting us by listening and coming to a live show is the best thing anyone who likes our music can do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if I had a friend in town for a week, I would make sure to: Explore some of the awesome nature that is within an hour of Nashville including Percy Priest, Radnor Lake, Cummins Falls, and Burgess falls. I would also make sure to have a few fun nights in East Nashville at Rosemary Beauty Queen, Up Down, Smith and Lentz, Duke’s, Edley’s, and 5 Points pizza. And of course, I would be sure to bring them to some world class music at Rudy’s, The Basement(s), Exit/Inn, and the 5 Spot. Lastly, I’d have to have them try some local Walker Bros. Kombucha; it’s the best kombuch on the planet!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Belmont School Of Music was a huge part of all of our musical training, and the reason we all met. Honestly the teachers in that program – Todd London, Roy Vogt, Jeff Rogers, Alex Graham, Chester Thompson, Adam Nitti, Chris Norton, Anthony Belfiglio, just to name a few are ultimately the ones who taught us a lot about music and life. We can’t speak highly enough of that awesome program. Our original bass player, Carter Murphy is actually on staff there now!
