Meet Amy Lokken | I’m the fun Mom and Cryotherapy entreprenuer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Lokken and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I think that balance is one of those things that I have continued to “learn” exactly what that means. I try to manage my time and schedule to make sure I can be available for the important events that may occur with my son, but also to find time to just be present with my family during the day to day items.
When I first opened, there was no balance. I threw every ounce of energy and time in to the business. I would miss events and activities with my family because of a work need.
I look back at some of the things I missed, and that makes me think about the choices I make with my time today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have spent most of my corporate life in the employee safety arena, some of which also included health and wellness. In those roles, you frequently feel like a investigator trying to figure out and understand how an incident happened, and looking for improvements to help prevent another incident.
I believe some of those experiences helped me to my role now as entrepreneur and business owner. I love what I do because I get to be a small part of making someone’s day just a little better.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hiking, lots of hiking and walking. We live in such a beautiful place and I like to go and enjoy the sites. Some favorite areas include the walking bridge and N Chattanooga, Chickamauga battlefield, Rainbow falls, and many more.
In the summer, a little paddle boarding on the river would be a must.
I’m a real sucker for outdoor patio seating -so if the weather is good we would find a patio. Brewhaus (get the pretzel) and TacoMammacita are definitely two great outdoor seating options. I would also be sure to go to Calliope and get some plates to share!
And if the Chattanooga market is open – that would be on the Sunday agenda.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would say our clients who are now my friends. They have supported myself and this business in so many ways.
I would call out my friend Rebecca Dennison who is my brainstorming buddy on ideas to try, books to read and just sharing support as a fellow small business owner (She owns the Masaj mobile massage). And my friend Meagan Moyers who is a great listener and problem solver! (She owns Resilience PT)
