We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Buggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
As an educator and business owner, I’m most inspired by the children I serve. Witnessing their growth, curiosity, and the joy of learning is a gratifying experience. Creating a nurturing environment that fosters not only academic but also social and emotional development becomes a driving force. Additionally, the opportunity to contribute positively to families and the Memphis community by providing a safe and enriching space for children further fuels the passion for education and childcare entrepreneurship.

What should our readers know about your business?
While I was very grateful to begin my teaching career, I quickly noticed most of the students I served were behind academically and one on one support was needed. I began my business, Ordered Steps, as an after school tutoring program. In 2020, I utilized my time at home due to the global pandemic teaching virtually as well as creating learning binders for many children in the Mid-South area. Our preschool beautifully blossomed June 2020, welcoming our first graduating class in August 2020. Ordered Steps aims to cultivate a dynamic learning environment that nurtures the individuality of each child. We are dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education, fostering curiosity, and promoting a love of self, others, and learning. Our focus extends beyond academics to encompass social and emotional development, encouraging children to build strong foundations for a lifetime of success. Our small number of students have access to extra curricular activities including physical education, culinary, music, art, and foreign language.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To know me is to know I LOVE THE 901! After leaving the airport, we are immediately heading to my favorite local restaurants, Bayou Bar & Grill. It’s a must to start the week off strong with their Zydeco Wings! I’d drop them off for the night at the best hotel for comfort and location, Arrive Memphis. Picking them early, we’d catch breakfast/ brunch at The Beauty Shop and explore shops on Main Street and the Cooper Young area. That night we’d head to the FedEx Forum in true Grizz Fan fashion to cheer our boys on, eating some of the best pizza at Slim & Husky’s while at the game. We’d spend the week “food hopping” at some more of my favorites, Brainfoods Memphis, Juice Bar, Southern Hands, Huey’s, Crumpy’s, and what’s a visit to the 901 without BBQ from Rendezvous? We’d hop over to Southaven for more shopping at Tanger Outlets. A fun night spent at Birdie downtown and bar hop downtown to end the trip!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, please allow me to shoutout my family first. I’m immensely grateful for the ongoing support from my family and friends. They have supported me live out my dream of Ordered Steps. Please also allow me to shoutout my fellow educators in the city of Memphis, specially my special group of friends who also own Private Preschools, Sheena Jones and Malorie Hullett
