Meet Ally Parker | Owner and Head Letterer at Madly in Love Designs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ally Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ally, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own business after being a bride myself and noticing the overpriced and under thought options available to brides for wedding signage. I wanted signage at my own wedding that I could afford and that didn’t look like everyone else’s. Once I learned to create it for myself, I created a business to allow brides to access personalized details for a fraction of the cost and via a sustainable option through our rental program.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I really feel like what makes my creations special is the brides who dream them up. I have learned the skills to handletter and bring visions to life – but the creativity, the willingness to tell their story, the strength of a bride’s inspiration and vision is what makes Madly in Love unique. So why are we different than others? Because the brides and planners we work with are amazingly creative and have great taste. I am proud of the collaboration we have with each bride that allows us to learn new skills to bring new visions to life.
Madly in Love Designs started small, ebbs and flows to varying volumes of output, and hovers right at the perfect size to be able to serve our brides well – but this all came through trial and error. Whether it was from timing of advertisement to acceptance of large projects, we learned to manage our time and portfolio the hard way sometimes. Each year gave us opportunities to streamline, set new boundaries, and accept the work that reflects our mission. We want the world to know that connection with your wedding vendors is the most important – shop for people that support your vision,
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to show them the South Main area of Downtown Memphis – so many great, fun places to eat and hang out. We could hit some simulated golf shots at Birdies, try some yoga at YogaSix Downtown Memphis, head to Wiseacre for a beer and some pizza at Little Betty’s. We could also head to Shelby Farms for a long walk if the weather was nice and take kids to the park there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a shout out to my family for supporting me and believing in me and Madly in Love no matter what size or shape it took in each year of business. My mom, sister, and husband have been my sounding board, moving crew, and biggest cheerleaders. I also want to thank the wedding planners I get to work with who make friendships first that turn into referrals and the chance to work together again!
