We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am proudly from Memphis, TN. Growing up in a city with so much culture I was exposed to entertainment and the arts at birth. With my dad being a rising rap legend I have always been around the industry in some form. As a child I fell in love with the news. I loved that this was a source of information about the city and world around me and it was always so intriguing. So as a child I would report my day to my parents and grandparents. Throughout my childhood my family was very supportive in interest to become an anchor. I set out on my journey to follow Oprah’s footsteps. Elementary and middle school I did the morning announcements and I loved knowing information before the entire school. By high school I remember the day I walked into the control room. This wasn’t my first time in a control room either but this time in particular for the first time I felt drawn to the space. I realized how much control you have over the show being in this room. From that day forward I switched my entire career journey from anchor to producer. Being exposed and taught all aspects of the production process from the Telecommunication Center I attended truly made the biggest impact on who I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If I could tell my 25 year old self that I would be a business owner, making active moves in the community leadership sector, teaching filmmaking to kids and writing I would not believe I could do it all at the same time. There were days I thought I’d never get to a happy place in my career after grinding for so many years with no real big break. It was a long 10 year journey that I didn’t realize was truly shaping me for what was ahead. I am proud of every position I’ve worked in, every no, every little lesson or piece of wisdom I received from someone in the industry telling me my time was coming. I overcame ever challenge by simply never giving up and leading with passion. It’s easier to give up on something you’re not passionate about. Not emotional passion but a passion that flows through you that is apart of your essence. I want the world know my brand is Elevating Excellence, Building Legacies, Empowering Communities. My story starts with my grandma Cora Jean who time on earth would be the most valuable to the woman you professionally see today!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would give them a cultural experience of Nashville: Nashville Black Market
National African American Music Museum
NashFeels
Cupcake Collection
Roasted
Rolled4ever
Riddim N’ Spice
Slim & Husky’s Pizza
Live Above
The Trenches
Cashville ect
Alchemy Cafe and Noir

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that should be recognized in my life and career story. It truly was a village from family, teachers, mentors and friends. My business partners who I will be forever grateful for!  I always seem to meet people at the perfect time. I am truly indebted to everyone who supports me, listens to my many ideas, recommended me, loved me, and uplifted me when I was down.

In 2017, I was gifted the book Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson, I’d just made a big decision that turns out was the best decision I made. it truly was a pivotal turning point in my career and life. In 2018 I sat down and read the the book in a season of my life that I felt like the lowest and most confused. That book gave me the drive and motivation to re-evaluate my life and a month later I was accepted into Full Sail University for grad school. My life has entire life changed and I have a new vision.
