Meet Alicia Archuleta | Teacher & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Archuleta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, what’s your definition for success?
Success to me lies in the little victories we see everyday. Growth = Success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally speaking, I stay busy with sessions and freelancing for Clarksville Now, one of our local media outlets.
I think my experiences as a photojournalist sets me apart from a lot of photographers in my area. It gave me a trial by fire education in random lighting situations, dealing with people who don’t want to be in front of the camera and being a fly on the wall. Going from journalist to portraitist wasn’t particularly hard but wasn’t a cake walk either. I have to remember it’s ok to edit and turn images into art as well as historical record.
I love candid and authentic photos and that’s what I aim for on every session, but more recently I have been busy working on posing and editing skills to take my portraits to the next level.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start the week with some time in Downtown Clarksville. The local shops and restaurants there are top notch. We would have to hit the Mailroom for brunch followed by a shopping excursion to &vinyl and Clarksville Connection.
One day, we would have to go to Miss Lucille’s and Dock 17 before we hit laser tag at the City Forum. Another day, we would go hike at Dunbar Cave State Nature Area and Rotary Park and follow it up with dinner at Old Glory Distillery. We would also need to take at least one day to check out the Pratt museum on Fort Campbell and then head back downtown to hit Shelby’s Trio for lunch. After lunch, we would hit the Customs House Museum and then Johnny’s Big Burger for a bun and cream.
Then hopefully on the weekend there is a show at Wicked Good Sandwiches or a game at APSU to round out the experience.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Krissy Wolfe, of CFOAF, has been an integral part of my success. She has encouraged me and called me out with sisterly love when I have wanted to throw in the towel.
