We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassy Laessig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassy, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If it fuels you, keep going. If it drains you, give yourself permission to try something new! Not everything that doesn’t work out is a failure. Sometimes it just means it’s not meant for you at that stage in your life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has definitely not been easy. It might look like it to some, but the truth is, I’ve had way more setbacks than I’ve ever shared online. The setbacks are honestly what’s shaped me the most.

I’ve never followed a clear path. I’ve taken so many leaps of faith, started over more times than I can count, chased ideas that didn’t always make sense, and learned mostly by screwing up and trying again. I’m still not where I want to be, but I’ve built something that is uniquely mine, and that is what I’m most proud of.

I’ve tried all kinds of things, including hair and makeup, digital marketing, e-commerce, art… and every one of them has knocked me down at some point. But I keep going because deep down, I love it. One of the biggest things I’ve had to learn is to stop feeling sorry for myself. Life throws crap at everyone, what matters is how you handle it.

I’m doing my best to use every challenge, including a recent cancer diagnosis, as motivation for whatever comes next. I care about everything I create, and I’m in this creative industry for the long haul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’d asked me six years ago when I first moved to Nashville, I would’ve said Broadway or Midtown… all the big, loud spots with music everywhere. And while I still love a good night out, these days I’m more into the laid-back sides of town.

I’d take my best friend to the little hidden beach at Lock 3 in Hendersonville, then hit up live music at The Basement, Ascend, or The Underdog.

We’d go to Tip-a-Canoe and kayak the Harpeth, hike the Narrows, and stop by L&L Market, Marathon Village, and the Farmer’s Market. Cummins Falls is a must if we’ve got the time.

For food? The Local, Sun Diner, Hugh Baby’s, Loveless, 5th and Taylor… depends what we’re craving. And yeah, if they’re driving, we’re grabbing a s’mores iced coffee from Scooter’s and going through Camel Car Wash. Super random, but worth the mention.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. I’ve got to shout out my family, friends, and boyfriend. They’ve put up with me disappearing for months at a time, missing holidays, and chasing one new idea after another. Somehow, they still stick around.

I also want to shout out the online communities that keep me grounded. Facebook groups, YouTube channels… anything mindset or personal growth related really helps me stay focused. The Diary of a CEO and Intuitive Soul Coach are just two of many I turn to regularly.
