Meet Lena Daniels | Indigenous Country Music Artist, Model and Building Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Wanting to show the unique side of an indigenous woodland cree artist, with a very special country style. How I have a rustic look and sound but a very soft spoken accent in person.
I have always loved singing and playing country music.
As a way of healing I wanted to express myself by using my writing skills and stories in hopes to maybe help someone going through the same struggles or challenges that I have experienced!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am indigenous country music artist, model and Building Operator based out of Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
I have been in construction for the last 14 years. I help to operate 180,000 square foot business park in Edmonton.
Doing everything from drywall repairs, mudding, taping painting and so much more.
As a country music artist, I have been writing and performing since I was child. But didn’t get my first guitar until I was 25 from my husband and haven’t put it down. My music stems from my feelings as a way of healing. I was so happy to receive multiple messages from people saying that my music helped them heal!! This is why I continue to write and express myself.
Along with everything else I am a model on the side. In the last 3 years I have modelled for over 50 artists and walked in over 20 shows. I also take my own indigenous clothing I have purchased to reservations and put on Fashion Show Workshops to Empower and Inspire children to believe in themselves. As a little girl, I never had new clothes, and often remember wanting to express myself through clothing. I love seeing how the children be brave and light up when they do my workshops.
I have worked extremely hard to get to the position where I was able to buy my first home 5 years ago. Growing up I experienced extreme poverty and never had a house that was actually ours.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the Buena Vista Dog Park such a beautiful place to walk anytime but especially in the summer and fall!
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant is called Pagolac.
You will get the best food for the best price!!
Check for the IAM collective market as it has lots of cool artisan crafts, food and entertainment most weekends especially during spring – fall.
West Edmonton Mall features over 800 stores including the following attractions; bowling, rec room, world waterpark, hasbro galaxy land starlight casino and Fantasyland Hotel.
Cook county saloon, The Aviary, Daisys Saloon and the Rig Distillery are some pubs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off my husband who has not only stood my side, bought me my first guitar but writes and continues to support me in all aspects of my music journey. My children and mom teaching me to always reach for the stars!
My best friend Sheri you have been there for me since we were kids and continue to sing our hearts together!! Wouldn’t be her without her!
My mentor Melody McArthur you inspired me to get on a stage as an Indigenous women. Also helped pave the way to not only my first concert that I will never forget. But to help success release multiple singles on all platforms and a recent collaboration that I will never forget.
I would also like to thank Global Country Music for all the amazing opportunities and support.
Lastly the Creator who has give me the amazing life that I live!
