We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Breanne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Being a true artist is dedication to your art throughout your entire life. There will be ups, downs, wins and losses. Success should not be determined on someone else’s view or opinion of success. If you are not able to stick it out through the tough times then you must consider you are on the wrong path.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been an entertainer and singer/songwriter since the age of 12. Being in the music industry/entertainment business is hard on young women and can easily turn you into a brand to make someone else money. I feel very lucky that I have always stuck to my gut in not signing with any major labels when I was younger. I could have turned out to be a very different artist that creates for different reasons than I naturally am called to do.
I have seen the industry in different facets throughout my life. I have seen how much control labels, management and companies have over artists. Being an independent artist is a tough, tough road full of many obstacles and a lot of sacrifices. Some days the sacrifices are harder than they used to be but I know that is the case for many people out there. I am happy I am able to be in control of what I put out into the world.
I carefully write songs and think of them as little homes that people can go to and visit whenever they need them. Wether they are grieving, growing, happy or sad. Music is the ultimate communicator. My living goal is to create songs and art for people to have when they need them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Belcourt Theatre for a great film and great conversations with people!

Browns Diner for a cozy hang and guaranteed to hear some of the finest songwriters in town.
So much history at the Belcourt and Browns Diner!

The Green Ray bookstore for some unique books and gifts.

Grimeys for records.

Anaconda Vintage and Live True Vintage for clothes.

Sonobona for the best sushi in town.

Random Sample for some great local art and local music.

Vinyl Tap for a good show and to buy more records.

Tune into 101.5 WXNA while you’re here! And grab a Nashville Scene to check and see what local acts are playing!

Avoid downtown unless you are going to see a show at the Ryman

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate all of albums and works to my beautiful mother who sacrificed so much for me.
