We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodney Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodney, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is making customer service a priority. It is important to treat your clients with kindness and compassion instead of treating them like another dollar sign walking through the door. I believe it is important to listen and remember details of your clients lives as well as things that some people overlook, such as what they like to drink and what they are interested in. Showering people with kindness is the secret to where I am at today!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I really am not sure what has set me apart from everyone else, but 27 years later, 6 salons, thousands of employees, I really don’t have one answer. In 1998 it really was just a roll of the dice. This is what life has given me. A very successful, rewarding career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First I will mention Sinatra, one of the best fine dining restaurants you can eat at here in Nashville for a nice dinner. For entertainment definitely take a stop on Broadway. If you have a sweet tooth, go by D’Andrews Bakery for a delicious pastry!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank all of my amazing clients of Rodney Mitchell Salons over the last 27 years who have visited one of my 6 salons across middle Tennessee and all of the hardworking people that have stuck by my side. I don’t have just one person that helped me get to where I am at in my career, I am grateful for everyone that has been a part of this journey. I think my focus and my faith has been responsible for placing the most supportive people and clients in my life.
