Meet Galey Grimes | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Galey Grimes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Galey, what are you inspired by?
As an interior designer, I am inspired by the art of storytelling through space. Each project is an opportunity to create a narrative, where every texture, color, and piece of furniture tells a unique story. I draw inspiration from a blend of timeless design principles and contemporary aesthetics, constantly seeking a balance between sophistication and comfort.
The beauty of nature is a constant muse – the serene flow of a river, the organic texture of stone, the calming palette of a sunset. These elements ground my designs in harmony and tranquility. I also find inspiration in art, architecture, and the world of haute couture – how fabric, form, and structure can seamlessly integrate to create something elevated and purposeful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is driven by a passion for creating spaces that tell a story, evoke emotion, and offer both beauty and functionality. What sets me apart is my ability to blend timeless design elements with contemporary sensibilities, creating environments that are both luxurious and comfortable. My journey to where I am today wasn’t always easy—there were moments of doubt, challenges, and setbacks—but each one taught me valuable lessons in resilience, patience, and the importance of mentorship. I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries, and my goal is to create spaces that deeply resonate with my clients, leaving them feeling at home and inspired.
I would love your readers to know that my brand is rooted in a belief that good design is about more than aesthetics—it’s about enhancing the human experience and creating lasting memories.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d craft the perfect itinerary to showcase the best of Memphis.
Day 1: Start with brunch at The Beauty Shop, then stroll through Cooper-Young or visit the Brooks Museum to soak in the culture.
Day 2: Enjoy a scenic outdoor activity on the Green Line and dine at Acre in the evening.
Day 3: Explore local antique shops like Laural Road Antiques & Modern and Palladio and visit a hidden gem cocktail bar like The Pocket.
Day 4: Take in a live music show or theater performance at The Orpheum.
Day 5: Unwind with a relaxing spa day at The Peabody and enjoy dinner at my farm-to-table spot, Hog & Hominy.
Day 6 & 7: Enjoy food festivals, farmers markets, and hang out at popular local hangouts to embrace the city’s energy and charm.
For me, it’s all about a mix of food, culture, nature, and connecting with local creatives!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey would not be the same without the unwavering support of my family and the invaluable mentorship of my dear friend, Becca Gaines. Becca’s wisdom, guidance, and steadfast belief in me have profoundly shaped both my personal and professional growth. Her dedication to her craft and her generosity in sharing her knowledge inspire me daily. I am endlessly grateful for her encouragement, as well as the love and support of my family, who remain the heart of everything I do. Together, they have been instrumental in shaping Galey Grimes Interiors into what it is today.
