Meet Fazar Roma Agung Wibisono | painter, digital art creator, muralist, and more

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fazar Roma Agung Wibisono and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi FAZAR ROMA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In pursuing a career in the arts and creative world, first since I was three years old I have drawn random pictures of what I like and what I see, then I imitate it to draw even though as far as I can remember it will not be similar, but my love for fine arts, especially drawing, I continue to do it every day, whether it’s scribbling on the back of the book to take notes or others when I was in school, until now I continue to create works of art, be it paintings, digital art, murals, video art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
– as an art activist, getting a position as an art professional is not easy, because after leaving university I had to be unemployed for two years working as an artist, whatever I did to be able to live, but this odd job has been a habit for me since I was in high school before entering university I have done it, also I often apply to galleries to be able to exhibit, even though the path is very difficult, sometimes we get a lot of rejections and sometimes we are not considered because who are you? but that is also the foundation for continuing to strive to be eligible as an art activist, sometimes my friends and I hold small exhibitions even though it doesn’t have a big impact on the world of fine art, but this is a way of life to survive in the world of fine art.
Only after two years in the confusion of the art world did I get news that someone was interested in my work from a gallery through my senior when I was in college, then the gallery wanted to contract me to work as a professional artist there, I got a work contract for 7 years, with various experiences as well as being a gallery artist we still have to fight hard it’s not that easy we can be satisfied and big-headed to have been accepted in an art gallery, but there are many other challenges we must remain in the best performance to continue to produce good and the best work we must not be satisfied with the work we have made today because tomorrow we may not be able to make it like yesterday, so this is where we must be able to survive with the quality of good and the best artwork. After seven years of working with an art gallery, I decided to move on my own, with a little experience from the gallery and the way of working in processing artwork by my seniors who also served as my curators while working in the art gallery, that I was educated hard by my curator to continue to be able to improve the quality of thinking, techniques and our perspective in creating artwork, but that was very valuable for me because unconsciously that education from the art gallery and my curator had been slowly absorbed to develop in creating artwork today, so this is valuable guidance for me that I actually have a lot of knowledge in processing artwork and fine art management from the art gallery.
to overcome the challenges after leaving the art gallery I have to find a way to promote my work, which is fortunately now with the existence of digital media on the internet, unlike when I was in the early 2000s I would have found it difficult to promote my artwork a little easily, now I can easily access links for all kinds of art in this world, we just have to want to dig, shuffle, study the contents of these links so that we can explore and learn in order to promote our artwork, whether by open call, competition, or others, unlike before it had to be word of mouth.

what makes me different from others, what makes me different is that my soul is only one and the initial idea in creating art (although sometimes there is a term our twin in another world but when will we be able to and think about finding our twin which sometimes becomes an idea for a work or really finding it), although sometimes in the material as a processed sometimes we get caught up that this has not been used or originality by others but after we check other people in other parts of the world have used it. so what makes me different is just the scratches, texture, weight, energy from my hands and thoughts to process and produce works of art that others will not be the same as my work, except in the processing of reproduction works but even then it will still not be the same. about myself for the world is that I exist by creating art that makes me alive, hopefully with my artwork that I have made so far I have also released it in various media can be of benefit to others, both ordinary people, collectors, art lovers or others, although I am not grandiose will be remembered but my work has existed in this world with all my efforts
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I want to take my friend to the ocean or beach, where we can surf and skateboard to our heart’s content, we can grill fish on the beach and drink there, go through the forest near the beach to explore the strange forest that might get trapped in a strange jungle civilization, or hopefully we can find a city civilization under the sea and strange but not ferocious creatures if we can dive into the strange ocean too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
yes, in my success in surviving in the field of fine art, it is all thanks to hard work and hard work, the support of my parents plays a very important role because both of my parents are very supportive of my artistic spirit, especially my father because he has a background as an architectural planner, also my two older siblings also provide support, thoughts, and prayers that always provide a path for me in the arts to continue.
for people who inspire me are Salvador Dali, Jean Michel Basquiat, DIYANTO from local artist and others who provide material input for me to create art and the spirit of living in art even though it is difficult.
for groups and organizations I don’t get much from groups or organizations because I don’t play there much, only groups in the school fine arts environment I have a little experience, the rest I struggle alone in this fine arts world.
for books I get inspiration from the book LITTLE PRINCE and INTO THE AIR (the tragic story of climbing Everest)
and I might get a lot of support from music such as: NINE INCH NAILS, SMASHING PUMPKINS, MASSIVE ATTACK, PORTISHEAD, DEAD CAN DANCE, SICK OF IT ALL, and others that give me inspiration to create fine arts
