We had the good fortune of connecting with Alee Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I never really decided to go into a creative career–that life chose me. I come from a family of poets, painters, and writers, so being creative felt like it was part of my ancestral makeup. I never even considered anything else. I was just built with creativity in my bones.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2017, I niched my ghostwriting business to focus on clients who are processing trauma and/or journeying through grief. I made this change through the lens of processing my own trauma and used that experience to help others overcome their pain. I don’t just write bestselling books–I get to see my clients heal. In this sense, it’s more than just art. I am privileged to use my craft to drive meaningful change for others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in Nashville since 2008 and seen this city transform. When clients come to visit, I love to take them to Pinewood Social because it’s a low-pressure environment–they have great food and no one rushes us to leave. After that, my favorite staples are City House, Henrietta Red, Rolf + Daughters, and Folk.

Whenever my family or friends come to visit, we prioritize getting outside. We never miss a chance to check out a Nashville Sounds game. The downtown Farmer’s Market is my favorite weekend stop, we love to hike at Radnor Lake, and love to picnic at Cook Recreation Area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has read every word I’ve ever written and was instrumental in convincing me that I could literally do anything. That’s a hugely important thing for a writer as most of us find ourselves surrounded by people who think we’ll be poor and just adopt a ton of cats when we inevitably fail. My mom has always believed in me and continues to offer immense support on a daily basis. I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
