We had the good fortune of connecting with Nora Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nora, what principle do you value most?
Honesty, Transparency and Integrity will carry you far in life. These values are incredibly important to me because they ultimately speak volumes about your character. Being honest, transparent and operating in/with integrity help you to build solid relationships and can provide you favor in rough situations. When building community, in business and in developing a legacy with which you can be proud of, these values are essential to success.

Most of my audience and supporters tell me that they appreciate my authenticity in my content. Authenticity is created in spaces where honesty, transparency and integrity exist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I created my blog and social media presence Lipstick, Thighs, and Plus Size Life after I graduated from Berea College in 2014. I was tired of not seeing plus size representation that looked like me, so I decided to be the representation that was lacking. A while back, I rebranded, and my media name is my first and middle name, NoraZaneta. I encourage my audience to build their glam lives by showing them how I am building mine. The goal is to inspire them to live confidently, faithfully and glamorously. I post beauty, plus size fashion, faith and Nashville based lifestyle content.

Consistency, faith, failure, and perseverance helped me to be where I am today. Content creation is heavily trial and error. I had to learn about algorithms, different engagement data, what apps to use for editing, and how to convey an authentic message to impact and empower my audience.

Was it easy? Absolutely not! Is it worth it, yes! I struggled to balance life as a corporate recruiter, handling hard to fill roles, meeting deadlines, being active in projects, my church responsibilities, my personal life and relationships AND content responsibilities ( posting regularly, studying trends, meeting brand partnership goals etc). Not giving up, asking for help and advice from other content creators, and maintaining my love for creating content that inspires and empowers is what helped ,me overcome strategies

I learned to always remember that if one person feels heard, seen, or empowered by my content, that I am doing well, regardless of likes and numbers. I’ve learned to answer specific questions when i create and upload content: who am i helping, who does this impact, why does this matter, why should my audience care? I’ve learned that I need a routine, order, and tools to help with my content creation. I’ve learned how to pivot and to rest when needed to protect my mental health.

When others view my brand and story, I want them to know that God is good. I want them to see a women who has experienced trials and tribulations but is still living and enjoying life, glamorously. My original blogging and social media focus was on my life as a corporate girly, try to dress to impress as I sought to climb the corporate ladder. As my life changed, I included those changes as well. In 2022, I experienced my first layoff and that sent me on an interesting journey. This layoff sent me into a season of loss and depression which included homelessness. When I discuss building my glam life, sometimes the road to success starts with failure and brokenness, uncertainty and wanting to throw the towel in. My hope is that those who see me in my winning season, understand what it took for me to build my glam life, and also know that no matter what they are enduring, they will have victory and be able to live their glam lives if they keep the faith and trust God.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the plays at TPAC
I enjoy Five Daughter’s Bakery. I just tried coffee at Slow Drip Coffee in the Clarksville HWY area and it was amazing.
Monell’s, Princes Chicken, No Fuss Tacos ( food truck), Bag Lady’s, 400 Degrees Hot Chicken ( I love the regular catfish here). Slim & Husky’s, Noir, Supper Club, Doll’s and Soul are cool food places to take my friends to. I enjoy sushi, so I’d go to Arigato in Rivergate or Blue Sushi Saki at Fifth and Broad.
I enjoy makeup, so I’d suggest making lipstick and lip glosses at the Lip Lab at Fifth and Broad.
I love candles, Paddywax in the gultch is a great place for candlemaking.
I’m not a club or bar girl but if I do go out, I enjoy rooftop bars although I’m trying the mocktail girl life right now. Proof at the W, L27 at the Westin, and the LA Jackson at the Thompson are some of my favorite rooftop bars to see the city. and eat tasty food.
The Parthenon,
We’d take a boxing exercise class at Rumble Boxing.
I love to shop, I’d take my friends to Opry Mills and to the Green Hills Mall.
La Jetee is a new perfumery located in the Green Hills Mall. They sell niched based fragrances. I love the staff and the scents. I’d take my friends here for a unique fragrance experience.
Blueprint Cocktail and other bars in printer’s alley host karaoke nights, we’d do a karaoke night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this to Philomenia Harris, my late grandmother. She saw my gifts before I even know that I had them, She prayed for me so heavily, She was the first person to invest her time and love into my success. She helped me to practice singing when she recognized that I could sing. She encouraged me to believe that I am worthy enough to build and live my glam life. She is responsible for my expansive vocabulary, and my quick wit. She pushed me to go against the grain and to fight for my dreams.
