We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Covington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’ve always loved photos! Growing up I was always so fascinated by how you could feel so many emotions just by looking at an image. How by a beach or mountain scene, you could feel so serene. If you’re looking at a photo of a mother and her child, you can feel the love between them. I also know just how important images of a loved one become once they are no longer with us. That’s why i love what I do! One day these images and our memories are all we have, and they are definitely things we cherish. I wanted to make getting photos done fun and not seen as a chore, letting children run and play so we get beautiful images without it feeling forced.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I actually started this journey in 2013, right after I graduated high school! I took a few photos for friends on my phone, obviously it was free but I was just having fun! In 2020 when the world was falling apart and we had no idea what was coming next, my husband told me to take a chance and follows my dream. At the time I was just a stay at home wife/mom so I really did nothing else. I made the leap and bought a DSLR camera and took a few cheap sessions for practice to save up to get a really good lens that wasn’t the kit lens. It was The Nifty 50, or 50mm for those who don’t know. It creates a beautiful blurred background! I officially got a license and opened up shop in 2022. There have definitely been challenges! It isn’t easy to own your own business at all, especially when it comes to pricing, and when its slow season. One lesson I have learned are, you have to do your cost of doing business or CODB to figure out pricing. You have to calculate your shoot time, driving time, and editing time, as well as setting aside taxes. Another lesson I learned is being patient during slow season, it will always pick back up even if it doesn’t feel that way at the time. As for my art, I take great pride in it for sure! I always strive to go above and beyond and I’m constantly learning new techniques to grow my skills. I also take pride in my customer service, that’s a big one for me! Every photographer has a set style and I feel mine is definitely colorful and warm and bright but not too bright. I also love getting more candid moments. I will get those few posed ones with everyone smiling and once those are out of the way, we have fun! I give fun prompts and we just have a good time, smiling, laughing and having fun! It’s not always easy and sometimes my parents worry of there little ones aren’t still or smiling the whole time, I always remind them that the ones of them having fun playing will probably be there favorites! So I think that’s something I’m most proud of, making it an experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
oh my goodness, definitely Tenn Pin in Columbia! They have bowling, laser tag, bumper cars, go karts and mini golf! I have been dying to try Mama Mila’s myself so I would probably take her there for some italian food. I honestly would invite them to come to church with me on Sunday! I love Jesus more than anything and seeing my church family and worshipping together is my favorite part of the week! I also sing in the worship band and we definitely are passionate in our praise and worship time, and our pastor speaks straight gospel without opinions and i love that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my sweet husband, Richard. Thank you for always believing in me and supporting me, for hyping me up and being my biggest cheerleader. I love you!
I also want to raise up Jesus’ name! He’s my number 1 and is always leading me in life where I need to be and is right beside me every step of the way. I’m so thankful of his love.
I want to thank my mother for always telling me to follow my dreams, even the ones that seem so unattainable.
