Meet Michelle Thomas | Community Relations Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think being a safe space for them to figure things out within reason has had the most impact on my child. I’ve allowed my daughter to know that whatever she does; successful or not, I’m there to help figure the next move. She also knows that no matter what, I love her unconditionally. Mistakes are bound to happen but I’m here to guide her.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I assist seniors with the next chapter of their lives by helping them with senior living.
I want people to know that a senior living community isn’t a place when senior citizens go to die, but rather than go to thrive and still have lots of living to do. Most people think of a senior living community as somewhere where they sit and wait to die. It doesn’t have to be that way. Some places keep you moving and never let grass grow under your feet.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Alley on Main…a great representation of community feel but still feels like a small town.
I would take them to MTSU. It’s my Alma mater so I must show them where I graduated from.
I would take them my favorite Thai restaurant, Pad Thai Cafe and I would get them some ice cream made from MTSU dairy products.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For six years I worked for the Alzheimer’s Association. As the Senior Director of Development, I was able to become involved in community. I have donate time and money to other non-profits in the county. Thanks for the Alzheimer’s Association, my servant spirit was giving a home and I continue to feed into it. I fell into the Development world and had no idea that I would enjoy it, much less be good at it. It gave me purpose, while making me feel valued.
