We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabella Mazzola and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isabella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business has always been a lifelong dream. I guess you could say it’s in my blood, thanks to two Italian immigrants who came to America in search of a better life. My grandpa on my dad’s side started a quaint neighborhood pasta shop nestled in the Bronx, New York and on my mom’s side, my grandpa created his own construction business that helped build the town of Ossining, New York. Throughout childhood, my dad was the ultimate hustler. He started a retail business that soon expanded to multiple spots all over New York City. I couldn’t be prouder of what my family has achieved. Starting from scratch, they’ve built something truly remarkable. And now, I’m determined to carry on my family’s legacy with Twin Lantern.

My husband, co-owner of Twin Lantern, also comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Thankfully, we share the same dream of carving out our own path and starting a business. After nearly ten years of navigating through various roles in our desired fields, it felt like the right time to take the leap into entrepreneurship and apply the invaluable experience to our own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Starting Twin Lantern in 2024 has been a game-changer for me. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a plethora of talented artists and industry folks that has been nothing short of magical. Each person brings their unique touch to every project, infusing it with creativity and passion. Plus, the friendships among our crews have been a real source of inspiration and good vibes.

Of course, like any startup journey, there have been challenges to confront. Transitioning from a stable job to entrepreneurship stirred up a whirlwind of emotions especially anxiety. At times, it feels impossible for me to turn off the racing thoughts of doubt. I try my best to remind myself that every obstacle I face is a chance to learn, to grow, and to prepare me for whatever comes next. But, some days are definitely harder than others. I feel beyond lucky to have my husband by my side as both a partner and business ally, which has been an incredible source of strength and support. Together, we’ve combined our respective expertise gained over years in different fields to create something truly special. My family also serves as a guiding example in my entrepreneurial journey. Their story is one of resilience and determination, having overcome countless obstacles to build their own successful businesses.

What distinguishes Twin Lantern is not only my husband’s and I’s professional backgrounds but also our deep personal connection. As a husband and wife team, we bring a unique dynamic to the table, fueled by mutual respect, understanding, and shared goals. Our commitment goes beyond just delivering exceptional results; it’s about fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere on set. It’s important for us to create a warm and safe space, ensuring that everyone feels accepted and empowered to express themselves freely.

With every project, we aim to exceed expectations and leave a lasting impression. Our journey is just beginning, and we’re excited to continue creating meaningful connections and bringing our vision to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My recommendations would definitely vary per person, but here are my all-time favorite picks in Nashville:

My favorite food spots are Margot, Dino’s, East Side Banh Mi, Lou, Greko, Jeni’s, Dozen Bakery, and Baked on 8th.

My favorite tea and coffee shops are International Tea and Coffee Company, aromaG’s Botanica, and Dose.

Unfortunately some of my favorite venues no longer exist, but I do love The Basement East, Eastside Bowl and The Brooklyn Bowl.

If you’re looking for some nature time, I’d recommend checking out Percy Warner Park, Radnor Lake, Long Hunter State Park, Shelby Bottoms, and Harpeth River State Park. For some river fun, check out Sunshine’s Adventures and the Caney Fork River float.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As I pause to reflect on my journey, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support system that surrounds me. To my amazing parents, mama and pop, whose unwavering love and tireless support have shaped me into who I am today, I am endlessly thankful. To my husband Zane, through thick and thin, your constant encouragement and belief in me have been my rock through every high and low. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to be on this crazy journey with. To my awesome siblings, dear family and magical friends, your support has been a source of strength and happiness that I hold close to my heart. Thank you for always having my back. I want to give a special acknowledgement to my older sister Sabrina whose compassion and wisdom have been guiding lights in my life. Love you all so much! I also would like to thank all the wonderful individuals I have had the pleasure to collaborate with, whose trust and support have been instrumental in the success of Twin Lantern.

Each of you has played an important role in my life’s journey. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything!
