Meet Takaya Eafen | Fashion Designer & Embroidery Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Takaya Eafen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Takaya, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
You keep going when you understand the simple fact that, you only live once. If we only have this opportunity now, why waste it? Watching the the strong characters in my life fail and try again countless of times gave me the strength and respect to understand the hustle and obstacles of life. If you think about it, many of the famous scientist, designers, engineers, came across obstacles that prevented their success but they understood that there is this thing called Trial and Error.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most proud of is challenging myself to complete a Bachelors Degree in the course of 2 years. I had no intention of going to college after high school, after seeing that a degree in the United States get you no where in many cases. However, I attended anyways; at least for something I was passionate about and decided that if I was going to go to college I’d have to shorten the time, because I had plans and a timestamp for my future. I started in 2021 graduated in 2023 at the age of 20 years old. I am most proud of this because I managed to strive through complete stress, while working a full time job almost everyday, as well as having two internships and starting my business to help with the workload. I won’t say that I am just as successful than any other person today because I am still currently working on rebranding and finalizing my decisions after graduating college and now having the proper knowledge to manage a clothing brand effectively. My specialty is Fashion Design, Embroidery, Technical Design, Patternmaking, Draping, and etc. My biggest lesson of the year is to stay faithful, stay connected with your higher self, when you feel defeated remember your not, understand that having a timestamp of your future is ideal but unrealistic, if your starting from scratch. You have to stay leveled mentally and spiritually to overall be successful in my opinion.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest, I do not go out as much, but when I do I love to go to the park , grab food, do an artistic activity like painting or drawing. For a week long trip, I’d eat at Perkins on Park Ave for breakfast, Maybe StoneyRiver for dinner. I’d check out The Brooks Museum, or watch a play at the Orpheum Theatre.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate a shoutout to my parents Marcus and Tifanie Eafen, for showing me effortless hustle, strength, and support; all under the ways of God.
