We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
As a business owner, and building my business for the last 7 years while going through the birth of two children, death of close family members, a lot of market rejection, and navigating many people who told me to give up. I believe, I have learned a thing or two about learning to give up.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would be delighted! Blue Light Leadership is a Workplace Engagement Coaching Company. At Blue Light Leadership, we are on a mission to cultivate happier and more engaged individuals to make better workplaces, communities and to contribute to a collaborative global society. We envision a world where individuals have purpose, meaning and fulfillment as individuals, as team members and as organizational leaders. We are rooted in evidence-based research from Positive Psychology. We help distributed teams connect, communicate, and collaborate better.

The main differentiator is that we believe that current employee engagement at work is being done wrong! They are putting the onus on the company to engage the employee when it is the employee who needs to engage themself. Not to say that companies aren’t responsible to create and engaging environment but no one can make us feel engaged.

We need to know how to engage ourselves, how to get alignment with our own interests and meaningful pursuits. And no one really teaches that. But that is exactly what we do with all of the people we work with they become happier in their life because it is much more than a job you need to be engaged with, happy people are engaged with their life and a job is just a part of their whole lives. This is exactly why we use evidence based positive psychology, because it allows us to use tools and techniques that we know work.

After getting my Master’s in Coaching Applied Positive Psychology I have seen the change in myself and others using these positive interventions, so I have never looked back. I love who we work with and what we do! This is my life’s work, to create happier and more engaged people in our society.

There are so many moments that I have been proud of from speaking at industry conferences to winning great contracts with amazing clients, to getting my Master’s and yes boy was that hard. As a mom with two small children, and building her business many times I thought of giving up on getting my Master’s the demand just felt like more than I can handle. My husband was supportive but my small children wanted mom, not dad. Many Saturday’s I was locked in my office studying and I was unable to be with them. And they didn’t understand because they were too small.

I am also a leader in my Buddhist community, and as a leader, I am honored with opportunities to meet with our local members and encourage them during their tough times. Between working on being a great and present partner, to be a good mom and driven business leader growing my business and getting the right people in and being a community leader everyday I woke up knowing I must succeed. I put myself in a positive where succeeding was the only way out. I also must say there is a principle in Nichiren Buddhism, that is called ‘The Stand Alone Principle’. In my head daily I remind myself from my Buddhist study that there are times that we must stand alone, stand up for what is right. As a business owner when all odds are against you or people reject your services, and often times I would hear people don’t really want what you are offering. Or if people wanted it you would have more business. These things cut me deep, because I really believe in what I am doing. I really believe in my heart of hearts that I am in full alignment with my life’s calling. If I believed what others believed I would have quit many years ago, and although at times I believe that I should be further along, I just know that this is a stand alone spirit of a leader that keeps me going. I must succeed, because I believe the work I am doing is greatly needed in our global society.

In my Master’s Program, I did alot of research on global engagement and even created a program for my business. The data was clear. Young people across the globe are disengaged, we criticise them instead of helping them. We complain about them not showing up, and don’t show them how to show up on purpose. We have an engagement crisis on our hands, globally and locally. So we need to take a new approach to human engagement. People who have engaged lives show up even more engaged at work.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
They say it takes a village to raise a child, and it also takes a village to raise a business owner! Obviously, we start with the people who see me in all states, happy, sad frustrated, upset, worried and all the above yet the stand by me my husband, kids and mom. Then I would like to thank my SCORE mentor Janise Blanco who raises me up and helps me believe in myself, she is more like my business therapist I get to celebrate and learn with her, and also cry too. Another amazing female founder Felena Hanson for her years of mentorship in helping me grow my business. My business bestie Karen Stevenson, we laugh together we cry together and then talk business together. My business coach Ashley Schaer. My peers who are supportive and amazing including Dr Bonnie Wilson, Melissa Schaffner Del Toro, Viki Johnson, Maxine Doseth, Vivian Rank MCC, and so many more. My amazing network of professional in ProVisors, who support me and collaborate with me. My awesome team of Kathryn, Mary, Sandy, Gina and Janelle, they keep the business working well and create happy clients. My Buddhists sista’s and community who support me spiritually and emotionally as I navigate the hardships of adulting and life. All of my professors in Life University and the many friends who believe in me from my Master’s Program. The many clients we serve, their desire to be positive people on purpose in this world, inspires me to want to learn more to share with them. And I am 100% sure there are many more people, creating this list really help me see and be grateful for all the wonderful people I have had in my life.
