We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Harralson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
I actually just published my first children’s book, Turtle Tears. It’s available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and my website.

Turtle Tears is a children’s book inspired by the symbiotic relationship between turles and butterflies where butterflies will drink a turtle’s “tears” or known as salt from their salt glands. This book shows this relationship as an unexpected friendship where the butterfly helps the turtle through its sadness. It is recommended for any child going through grief or to help them work through their emotions in a different light.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t think it’s ever an easy journey in music or any art form. Networking and finding connections in your industry is very important, but it can also be hard as a female in country music. I think it’s important to figure out yourself who you are as an artist and not let a label or another person determine that for you. I think people can definitely guide you into the direction of finding your mission though. For me, that was through volunteering with Musicians On Call. I’ve been volunteering with them since 2015, playing at the bedsides of hospital patients, and through that organization, I was able to find my mission as an artist, which is creating and providing healing music to people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Usually when someone is visiting, I might go to Broadway with them once, and if they want to go more than that, they are on their own, haha. Just because of how touristy it is now. If it’s there first time in Nashville, they must visit the Grand Ole Opry and attend a show there. I also recommend The Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room for a writers’ round. For food, hot chicken is always a local staple at Hattie B’s or Prince’s. My favorite local restaurants are Bakersfield (downtown), Virago or Otaku Ramen for asian, and Monell’s is also a good Southern food staple. For coffee, Frothy Monkey is my favorite. I recommend the local shops in 12 South for shopping. I’m also an outdoors person, so visiting Percy Warner or Edwin Warner parks in Bellevue is a must for hiking. If it’s summer, you can’t go wrong with canoeing on the Harpeth River.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I have had many mentors and supporters along the way that have helped me get to where I am now. One of my current supporters that I would like to give a shoutout to is Darice G at Synapse Publishing. Ever since I met her, she’s been a huge supporter and advocate of my music and artistry, and just very willing to help me in my career.
