Meet Katelyn Woodmansee | Singer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn Woodmansee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katelyn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I just had a baby in October 2023 so my work life balance has really changed! While I was pregnant I was blessed enough to be able to keep playing music. I had nine months of planning & figuring out how I can still have my dream and take care of a baby. My inspiration came from my own parents who had a Christian rock band when I was a kid. Some of my favorite memories come from us traveling to gigs and dancing around at practice with the band and i am excited to create some of the same memories with my own family! However like most artist i also have to work a regular job to support my music so making sure i have balance is really important. One thing I have had to learn to balance, as music is a passion for me, I can sometimes constantly want to be talking about, playing, or singing and I need to remember that it is my passion not everyone else’s. So I really have to “leave it in the 9-5” and what I mean by that is even though playing music is unconventional I need to balance playing and taking time off.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been writing music from a very young age as my parents were also musicians and songwriters. I try to write music that has meaning; from messages of hope and overcoming circumstances to stories untold to help people understand they are not alone! There have been many times I have been frustrated and wanted to give up as it seems there is so much talent out there. But I come to realize that each talent has its own space and purpose. When I stopped comparing my progress to someone else’s success I could truly appreciate everything I have and have worked so hard for. Now I am able to not only do that, but provide an outlet for other artists as well with my Wildflower Writer’s Rounds, where I host singer/songwriters to showcase their music. There are still a lot of barriers out there for artists and I am trying to make small progress to really help not only myself but others. I can’t wait to continue to push those boundaries and put out art that inspires.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you were to come to Nashville I would say there is SOOO much this city has to offer. Hitting the murals trail is always one of my favorite things to do! There is so much beautiful art around the city! As for getting out in nature I would head out of the city just a short drive to Burgess Falls for some beautiful trails. You can’t go wrong on the go catching up with 5 daughters bakery donuts and going to Nashville Climb indoor rock climbing off Charlotte. That’s where my husband proposed! But the hidden gems are in the Songwriter’s rounds they are ALL over the city and outside the city like where I host in Hendersonville at Jstreet Korean Grill & Bar. Really getting to the small venues that are off the beaten path in hotels or small coffee shops gives you a more intimate experience where you can take the time to hear the artist and their stories. Of course you have to hit the tourist scene at least once downtown and one of my favorite spots on Printers Alley Blues Boogie Bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Joseph Garrison, my husband. I truly appreciate all his love and support for my passion. He has always been my number one fan & supporter! I also want to make sure I give God glory for my gift & talents. He has blessed me so much and I am grateful for all the people and opportunities he has put in my path.
