We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Lynsee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was in high school, my friends and I always did little makeshift photoshoots with our digital cameras when we hung out. Then I’d take the photos and find a free photo editing website. In January 2013, when I was 18, I realized how much I love taking photos, so I spontaneously started my photography business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My life is jam packed with a passion for music. When I was in elementary school, I was performing in the chorus line for musicals. From the time I started middle school; I’ve played flute, guitar, and other instruments and have had the pleasure of being in many bands on those instruments. In college, I received a Music Business degree and I currently work full time at BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc – Performance Rights Organization). In my free time, I’m often attending and working shows, playing flute in a community band, and my circle of friends are musicians and industry professionals. Since moving to Nashville in 2017, I’ve been able to take my passion for music and intertwine into my love of photography. My biggest goal in life that I’ve had since I was in college is that I want to help musicians as much as I can. Specifically in photography, I become overjoyed by any opportunity to photograph others in the music scene. Getting to have a hand in helping them create promo material and social media content and seeing those photos shared with the world brings me so much joy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The sites I’d have to take a first time Nashville visitor to would be: the Parthenon, the Pedestrian Bridge, and Radnor Lake. I especially love the Pedestrian bridge for the Nashville skyline. Those places are beautiful and are great for photo ops. I’ve taken the tours at the Opry and at the Ryman – seeing all the green rooms and backstage areas are very interesting and if there’s a music showcase happening, it’s definitely worth going to. My favorite venues in town are Marathon Music Works, Exit/In, and The End. They’re venues of all different sizes, but I’ve had the time of my life at each place. The restaurants that are always on my go to for visitors are Chuy’s, Martin’s BBQ, and Broadway Brewhouse. One show I’d hope we could catch is seeing my friend’s residency show at Live Oak. Cody Parks and the Dirty South hosting Filthy Friday – his band is a Country Metal band that plays original and cover songs of Country and Classic Rock. With Nashville being Music City, I think Rock and Country are the most prominent – Cody and his band take the two genres, create high quality music, and put on a very entertaining performance.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first supporters were definitely my parents. When I first started my business, they decided to give me my first DSLR camera for my high school graduation gift. 11 years later, they continue to support me any chance they can and are letting me know how proud they are of how hard I’ve worked on my business. My biggest supporter right now would be my boyfriend Nick. Whenever I get a new piece of gear I want to try out, a new technique or style I want to experiment with, or just have a location I’m itching to take photos at, he’s always willing and ready to get in front of the camera and help out. He’s also a performing musician, and it was at one of his show’s in early 2020 that I took my first concert photography photos. Since then, anytime he plays a show, I’m in the front row taking pictures and that’s been extremely helpful in getting practice with taking photos in various style venues.
And lastly, I have had so much support from local musicians here in Nashville. I feel so blessed to have clients that have had me take photos for them at their shows, for their band promo photos, and even their engagement photos.
