We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?

One thing that outsiders are unaware of is that the Beauty Industry is not a get rich quick scheme and you will not make it from talent alone. This is not a business that you will succeed in if you do not LOVE what you do. Being a beauty service provider should include discipline, passion, and patience.
Most of us have gone through years of trial and error to get where we are today. The beauty industry can be lucrative, but you have to work 10x harder than you did the week before to set yourself apart! It can be challenging but it is very rewarding seeing the fruits of your labor.

What should our readers know about your business?
Makeup by K began years ago while I was still in High school. It started off with just makeup, but last year I decided to take it a step further by attending Esthetician school. I have since fallen in love with brows, waxing, lashing, and facials. Because of this, I am excited to announce that I am currently in the process of rebranding!

I believe what truly sets me apart is my willingness to continue learning after I’ve mastered a skill. I genuinely want nothing but the best for my clients. Although I am grateful to have worked with celebrities, my clients that support me on a regular basis are my celebrities!

As I always say, I would not be here if it were not for God blessing me and giving me the yes to pursue my talent. Making a name for myself and my business in this industry was not easy. What did help me overcome was realizing my end goal and purpose.

The biggest advice I would give to people is to not sit on your ideas. God blessed you with those ideas for a reason, trust that he’s given you the power to execute!
Makeup by K has ALOT of new services and things coming this year so be on the look out!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends came to Memphis I would take them to brunch at SAGE Memphis downtown. I would then take them to harbor town and Beale Street during the day! After, we’d go shopping at the Wolfchase Mall or Tanger Outlets. I’d suggest having lunch at Memphis Best Wings, Meals for You, or Balas Bistro.
Later on we’d probably go to a nice restaurant or lounge like Supper Club, Energy Pasta, or Moondance.
Of course I recommend staying at the Peabody!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I could not continue without giving honor to God and thanking him for everything he has done for me thus far! He deserves all of the credit because without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I want to shout out my son, Kobe, for being mommy’s number one supporter! At only one year old, Kobe is my biggest motivator! I also want to thank all of my family for being my backbone throughout my pregnancy and first year of motherhood. It truly does take a village!
