We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Silverman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My brother Rob Silverman and I have been involved in the online music business from the very first iteration of the mp3 format in 1997, and we were excited about the possibility of the coming digial music revolution at every step. As iTunes was launched, we immediately began releasing our music library onto the platform, and we quickly built a large presence in the instrumental music world with Autumn Hill Records. As downloading music gave way to streaming, we befitted from being early adopters, and now we are one of the most streamed instrumental music labels in the world with over 11 billions streams, and it is still accelerating. We.ve had hits in jazz, classi, cal, New Age and World Music. We recently launched the Autumn Hill Records streaming video channel “Time To Relax’ on the Roku Service, and will roll out the Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV channels this spring.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began as a pianist/keyboard player, with a fascination with composing instrumental music in a variety of styles: classical, New Age, jazz, jazz-fusion and progressive rock. I have always loved arranging classical music in whimsical new ways, as well as my fascination with unusual electronic instruments, which led to our touring group “Bach to the Future.” I spend most of my time recording, and have created music for countless jingles , TV shows and film scores, including “Two and a Half Men,” “The Good Wife,” “Dynasty” and American Horror Story.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I visit Nashville frequently from my hometown of St. Louis, so I see the city from a fairly obvious perspective. Martin’s BBQ is my favorite rib joint, and there is nothing in the world quite like Rudy’s Jazz Room! I love to see Regi Wooten and Friends there whenever I get the opportunity!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There a re a lot of people to thank for where I am today, but primarily my brother Rob Silverman, who’s relentless energy made all of my daydreams into supercharged realities, as well as my wife, Kathy Silverman, who let me try an endless string of harebrained ideas as a developing musician, composer and entrepreneur. Thank God both of them are nuts!
