Meet Annie Ar’tist | Mompreneur | Photographer | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Ar’tist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Annie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance has meant many different things to me over the years. Here lately, it takes priority over any job, salary, or benefits. As a mompreneur, running her own photography business, I also help support my family by working a 9-5. Yet it looks completely different from prior to having children. I currently work from home in the healthcare field. My current position allows me the flexibility needed to stop and get the kids from daycare, if needed. I can also have dinner prepped and ready when the little one get home, freeing me from the Hustle-N-Bustle of “after 5” life. I’m primarily able to accomplish it all by prioritizing self. I finally realized the reality of the phrase, “You can pour from and empty cup”. When I began to prioritize myself, I realized I was more present and fulfilled. This lead me to what to accomplish more and not be overwhelmed by it all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have recently rebranded myself as a “Mompreneur, Photographer, and all around Creative”. You can hear the tag on my Youtube channel.
My art is photography. I absolutely love it. I love the tell a story through still moments. I specialize in artist & product branding. My passion is help others to reinvent themselves and their business. The love for photography was gradual. If you read the bio on my website, I tell the story of how I come from musical theatre. I would often take bus footage (behind the scenes). That led into me taking pictures as a hobby. Then the pandemic smacked us all in the face and I needed a creative outlet, and additional stream of income. This lead me to taking photography as a profession in 2020. It has been extremely rewarding to me, and also brought out some things I needed to work on.
After my 2nd year in photography, we conceived my daughter. The pregnancy was rough, and the postpartum period was horrendous. I initially continued to take on clients. Yet as my illness took over my mental health, it directly affected my work. I decided to take a step back from photography and fought my way out of the dark whole of postpartum depression. This is where selfcare became my priority and I stopped pouring from that empty cup. This growth immediately improved my communication with my clients, and the quality of work I put out improved. I am proud of the work I put out to each of my clients and I hope they cherish the gift which I provide, a story through a still moment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is an interesting question because I believe excitement is wherever I create it. Yet I will say, I am ALWAYS down for an experience. I don’t have a favorite restaurant or hangout spot. I often find myself looking for a great Black-owned/Minority-owned adventure. The level of entertainment is always superb. I also enjoy nature and the peace it brings. So If you can find an outdoor activity, which there are TONS, go for it. The sun is revitalizing. Add some friends, family, and libations…you can’t go wrong.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout MYSELF!!!
Yes you read that right, ME! Being a mother is such a thankless job. Being a mother who runs her own business, we are often seen as “superwoman”. Yet we are not invincible. Our kryptonite is the silent thoughts of inadequacy, the sleepless nights up with sick kids, the self doubt if we are making the right decision for our family. These are all things I have had to battle within myself. And you know what, I won! I did it. I did it while suffering from postpartum depression. I made it. I have realized that I am my biggest fan. So whenever presented with the opportunity, I’m going to celebrate myself.
