We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am a braider, but I also am well versed in other areas of hair styling as well. I pursued this creative path because it was something that allowed me to be in a happy space. Whenever I am working, I am honestly in a more peaceful headspace. I like to call it my “me time”. It’s a time where I can block out any of life’s outside noises or distractions just for that moment. Being a braider also allows me to take my talents anywhere. Any new state or city I choose to go to, there will always be a need for a braider. Women are always looking to get their hair done. So, with that, I am in a win-win situation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got to where I am today with my business, honestly, by never giving up. Giving up is always easier to do than staying consistent and keeping that end goal in mind. When I first started, I started from 0. I was on a college campus and decided to start doing my own hair. This lead to people wanting a service by me. Now, I was not taking it serious back then, until one year i was just like I really love doing this and I realized that I was very passionate about it. I created an instagram to get my name out there. Then began to be out in the world more and started learning the value behind networking. I made business cards and I was working at a beauty supply store so from then it just continued to grow into something bigger than I expected.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmmm… if my friend was visiting for a week and I had to show her around, this is how our week would go. Monday through thursday we would probably go eat at a place like princes hot chicken or helen’s for lunch, probably show her the gulch area and walk around for a bit. I would love Condado tacos & margaritas on tuesday. My favorite ice cream place is in downtown nashville and it’s called mikes icecream. During the weekend I would probably take them to the bridges downtown and take pictures. I would also love to bar hop at some of my favorite’s downtown which would be whiskey row or jason aldeans. Or even a lounge like minerva ave or vibes bar and lounge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I honestly can’t just name people because I feel that there have been people that I barely knew that have contributed to my journey. There are so many people that don’t realize the smallest things can take someone so far. I appreciate everyone down to certain supportive family members, friends that I may not even be friends with to this day, but especially the friends I have now. Also, even down to some romantic relationships that I have been in. They all have pushed me along the way.
