Meet Shane Hite | Film Maker & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane Hite and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I truly feel like this path I have chosen was meant to be. I have always had an interest in film and production. Straight out of high school I followed the footsteps of my father and grandfather and started working in the studio industry in Hollywood, CA. Being on set, I dealt with props, actors, and made sure that everything looked camera-ready, as I would be the one next to the director monitors making decisions after each take. I took an interest in more of the camera operations and I taught myself every aspect of cameras after purchasing my first camera back in 2016. I became infatuated with learning and growing as I shot more and more. I started in photography and quickly jumped into videography with having my background of knowledge and insight. When I got a request for my first wedding to do both photography and videography, I was hooked with the thrill of a wedding day and the high pressure moments. It brings me so much joy to have the responsibility of capturing so many great memories through my films and photographs. I now have been fully pursuing this world full time for the past 5 years. I am putting my focus into weddings, music videos, and portraiture as my career continues to flourish.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Building Captive Visuals has been the most rewarding and challenging thing I have done. My confidence and self-esteem have really grown in the past 2 years once moving to Nashville, TN. I know I bring a different skill set when it comes to being a wedding filmmaker. I have worked extremely hard to build my business and am always motivated and ambitious to perfect my craft. I would say my mental health has been my biggest obstacle that I deal with to this day. The unknown is what is scary coming from a person that prefers to have everything be in their control. What I have to remind myself is that someway, somehow, it’s always worked out. Jobs come in when needed, networking happens when I have least expect it, slow times turn into busy times, the list goes on. It has been hard to acknowledge that but I have to. Also, mixing in time away from work is something that I also need to put more effort in to do. Going back to what I said, this has been the most rewarding and challenging ride I’ve ever taken, but I wouldn’t change it for world.
I specialize in cinematic story telling with a touch of modern and classic styles. Attention to detail and emotion are objectives I strive for to incorporate. I want everyone watching to see and feel those components even if they don’t know the couple. At the end of this year, I will have photographed and filmed a total of 144 weddings in the past 3 years, alongside branding and portrait work for local companies and restaurants. Each year has continued to surpass the last and I have full belief that sky is the limit moving forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As far as places to see, some of my favorites are Bicentennial Park, The Parthenon, War Memorial Building, and Pedestrian Bridge. There are so many great breweries and Arrington Vineyards is such a great place to hang. If you are looking for a true Nashville experience go to Nashville Palace and take a line dancing class! They also have a variety of different shows as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and a select few of my close friends definitely deserve a shoutout! They have been on this journey with me of following my dream. The struggles, the growth, the opportunities that have come, and me staying true to the person that I am. so much of me as a person shows in what I do and how I treat my clients. The close people in my life have all helped with me becoming the person I am today. Their input, knowledge, and suggestions have been a tremendous help in all of this as well! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.
