Meet Wiser Time | Artist, Musician & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wiser Time and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wiser, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Keeping it on the lighter side of things, I often say that my life is like a Rolling Stone’s song in that, I rarely get what I want, but I try and work very hard at things and being my “best self,” and as a result of staying relatively true to that, the universe provides me what I need.
What I like about the lyric is that it’s just a reminder to keep going. And it’s the Stones baby.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most substantial part of my art and music is tied up in Wiser Time, and it’s a constant and very specific thing for me and how I talk about moments in my life or how I perceive things around me. It’s been my “On The Road,” but in a musical form. And all the while I’ve been working my craft, I’ve been building a cool little label group with some amazing working partners who produce, distribute and license music. There’s always challenges, especially in these times when technology has changed the ways in which so many things are done. I’ve kind of come up through this entire Internet/digital transition and this kind of generational shift. I would need some sort of novel to write about all of the challenges and successes that have happened in my Wiser Time music since I started in 2001. All of it, good and rough. The thing to remember is that change is inevitable and constant, so try not to fear it. Try to understand it and find the room to grow within
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from the New Jersey/New York area, and as far as I’m concerned, this northeastern part of the United States is the best if you love the 4 seasons. Things and scene’s have changed so much over the years that some of my favorites might not even be around anymore unfortunately, but if we’re having just talking fun, then I’d say that a week-long-visit from a friend would go something like this: – How are you my friend, and what would YOU like to do?
– I’d have some wine and food, and would probably want to chill for a while and catch up.
– If it’s the fall season, then we’d have to visit some farmer’s markets and check out some of the shops in town or maybe go for some sort of hike.
– There would most definitely be shows to go to and friends to see or sit in with. Some local joints or jump into NYC.
– It’s Fall, so we could take a drive upstate to the Albany/Hudson area where it’s some incredible foliage and beautiful small town feel
– I like to cook and make music and art, so we’d be working on something, probably with a glass of wine in hand and a fire going.
When I’m home, I generally like to be at home and have my privacy so I can just focus on my work. When I’m away, I tend to want to go more deep into things. Like, it’s fun to experience Broadway in Nashville, or Riode Janeiro, or wherever, but I’ll do those things on the quick, and give me the cab driver who takes me right into the heart of things where it’s not the tourist spot.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
You know, I can truly say that the list is too long to truly acknowledge one person. When you live an artistic path like I have for this long of a period of time, there’s so many people who contribute, mentor or lift you up along the way. Like Jimmy Leahey, who gave me a foundation and helped me to fall in love with the guitar when I was 16. Or Benny Harrison, who got me my first NYC gig at China Club by letting me open for him when I wasn’t even old enough to get in! Or Tom Camuso of Studio E in Brooklyn, who has literally spent THOUSANDS of hours of his precious time recording or mixing. Or Rachel Irimescu who I met on MYSPACE, and who was my glue for so long with Mick Wainman from Digital Music Marketing. It’s an impossibly long list, and every one is a blessing.
