We had the good fortune of connecting with Veesugee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veesugee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I believe art and music chose me. It comes to me like breath to my lungs. I was born an artist and explored ways to express myself as an artist. I wrote my first song when I was twelve. The feeling I got was all over body excitement. And I knew this is it! This is who I am! This is what I will do! The feeling hasn’t changed with age. Writing music and singing is still such a natural and necessary process for me. I surprise myself through my creations. It’s a beautiful experience. One I happily live again and again.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My approach to writing songs is more a practice of meditation. I channel poetic messages and put them to song. It’s a spiritual practice I hold dear. Nothing in life has ever come close to my songwriting experiences. I’ve challenged myself as an artist to find my sound. I lean towards dreamy, and haunting siren with prophetic lyrics. I’ve struggled to find my place in the music industry. It’s also been impossible for me to wear all business and creative hats when it comes to pursuing music as a career. It’s always been more a lifestyle for me than say a career. It’s who I am, not what I want to be. Music chose me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Planning a trip to Nashville? Ditch the car and get an Uber! There is a lot to do downtown. The strip is where most tourists go. Stumble around on foot and take in the country music scene! With beautiful views of the Cumberland, live music, cowboy boots and good drinks you can’t go wrong!

Like to hike? Stop by Radnor Lake for a beautiful day hike.
Want to catch live local bands? Check out the Basement East or the 5spot!

Like spicy food??? Grab some princes hot chicken.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My very talented, loving, and kind friend, Elke Robitaille. We became friends in our early 20’s. She blew in from LA like a dream! I was in Portland, OR at the time. Elke had recently graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. She was the first girlfriend I’d made who was a musical artist! It was exciting learning from her. I was so inspired by her professional approach to songwriting and presenting herself as an artist. She introduced me to Ani Difranco! I would drive around Portland rocking her music. I gained so much confidence in playing the guitar and writing songs because of her beautiful presence and friendship.
