We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole & Scotty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole & Scotty, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We were actually really young when we first started to consider pursuing a career in music together. At fifteen and eleven years old, collaborating on our creative skills was the foundation for what our future would eventually look like. Our earliest plans to begin our musical journey were to start writing songs, playing live at open mics, and uploading covers to YouTube with the intention of reaching an audience who loved music just as much as we do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We love nothing more than writing songs about our feelings, and bending genre lines while we do it! We got our start in acoustic and Americana music, then evolved our sound to more of a Pop/Electronic fusion. Now we love to play around and explore genres that are still on the rise – everything from TripHop to Darkwave, Cyberpunk to Pop/Rock. Everything we experience on this crazy ride called life can be turned into a song and a story to tell, and crafting that soundscape from silence is always going to be the coolest magic trick we know how to perform.

Getting to where we are today professionally involved an impressive amount of hard work and dedication, and we’re out here working towards moving the goalposts every day, haha. We try our best to write or work on a song at least every day, keep our performance skills sharp, and post consistent content to reach new audiences while also engaging with those already part of our fam – our ‘Fellow Travelers, as we like to call them!

The journey is definitely not an easy one, but it is one that feels well worth it to us when we’re able to have our voices and stories heard through our music.

The greatest challenges we face in the music industry are breaking through the barriers set to prevent independent artists from reacing the ‘inner industry’, so to speak. It’s not as simple or often even as possible to access certain opportunities or social reach that artists who are represented by labels, agencies or management have, but hey, we’ve always been up for the challenge and would love to one day see a shift in the music world that readily accepts artists from every walk of life and all corners of the world.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is that making it in music is no competition. Making friends and collaborating with pur fellow creatives has brought us more joy than we can ever explain.

We want the world to know that we’re two kids with a story to tell; a story of self-discovery, emotional recovery, and family. We love what we do, and we intend to spend our whole lives making music together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being born and raised in Los Angeles has been a great privilege! We love our city and the opportunity to show it off to friends from our of state or even out of country, which we’ve had the opportunity to do many times before. Disneyland is a must as far as theme parks go. The Fairfax Farmer’s Market at The Grove is an awesome place for good food and fun. Santa Monica is also rich in experiences, and you’ve got to visit Venice Beach or Ventura at least once if you’re in SoCal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the loving support of so many kind souls. The first artist to find us and reach out as a mentor was Lisa Marie Presley. After coming across a cover of one of her songs that we’d uploaded to YouTube in 2013, Lisa graciously invited us to join her on her national tour when we were sixteen and twelve years old. We had the incredible opportunity to perform live with her a few times, and we were honored that some of the earliest guidance on how to navigate the music industry came from her.

Our amazing Mom has been our biggest support system since day one, and honestly every effort we’ve made to establish ourselves as musicians has always been for her.

Over the past ten years, we’ve been blessed enough to have created a family of beautiful supporters who get just as excited about us dropping new songs or content as we do, and that seriously means the world! We’d also be nothing without all of the musical and creative friends we make along the way.
