We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Caum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Heal. The best thing any parent can do for their children is heal. Healing my inner child, being radically honest with myself about my past, and, processing the unresolved trauma that is still stored in my body has done wonders for my ability to give my children a better life and a greater chance of succeeding in their own lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart is my ability to convey a distinct voice or perspective through my work, allowing me to create a personal connection with my audience. I am most proud of the impact my work has on others and my most recent achievement of my first solo exhibition. The sum of my success has been overcoming challenges with resilience, adaptability, and a strong support system. The biggest lesson I’ve learned as an artist thus far is that it’s best to create the art I want to create. The right audience will come. As an artist, I work with metal and paint to create sculptures and abstract paintings that explore raw emotion. I’ve always been drawn to the many genres of art, as they provide a platform for the freedom of expression.
My creative process involves taking the emotions and ideas that are swirling around in my head and bringing them to life through the material world. For my metal sculptures, I use welding techniques to fuse together pieces of metal, creating dynamic three-dimensional forms that convey the intensity of the emotions I’m exploring. When it comes to my abstract paintings, I use natural movements to apply paint to the canvas, creating layers of color and texture that evoke a sense of emotional depth.
My work is driven by the belief that emotions are meant to be expressed. Through my art, I hope to encourage others to let their emotions out, to feel the power of expression, and to embrace their own unique creative voice. My message is simple: better out than in. By expressing our emotions, we can connect with ourselves and others, and find a sense of release and relief that can be deeply transformative.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a foodie and head chef at Nobels in Carthage, Tennessee, we would definitely be going to the restaurants in the area. But first, coffee from Rokabilly Coffee where I’d get my personalized honey cold brew, an extra hot shot of espresso, and honey cold foam. That’s a standard start to my day. We would stay a night at Tuscany Inn Tennessee, a quaint Air B&B tucked away in Hickman, TN. The views are amazing and the chef makes incredible Chicken Marsala. I’d make dinner reservations at The Bull & Thistle, a restaurant in Gainesboro, Tn with a delectable Southern take on Irish Cuisine. We would hit up Wildwood Resort and Marina and try some of their menu selections. I’d also take them on an art tour of Smith County. We have a thriving art movement happening here, I love seeing the growth and expansion of the arts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It has taken a village of support to get me where I am today. I live and do work in Carthage, a small town in Tennessee. In this small town is an incredible network of small businesses and art lovers that all support and help build each other up. Stephanie McCaleb Interiors is a wonderful interior designer who gave me the inspiration to dive into creating art regularly and never ceases to promote local artists. The owners of Nobels, the restaurant I am head chef at, have been integral in guidance and mentorship in my professional life. The owners of Rokabilly Coffee are huge supporters of local artists and their work. The Rogue & Raven and Sun, Moon, and Star Emporium, are local tabletop gaming stores and metaphysical stores respectively and are also supporters and help promote local artists. Without this amazing network of people, my art career would not be taking off the way it is. I owe massive thanks to all and more for my growing success.
