Meet Charlie Walden | Rapper and Singer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Walden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlie, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve had to make was choosing to move from Virginia to California. I grew up there and was surrounded by family, yet I knew that if I wanted to pursue music it was not the place for me. In order to follow my dream, I had to leave what was familiar behind and take a chance. It’s been scary, but also rewarding in that I’m able to have access to a lot of talented people who can teach me about the music business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been involved in music since elementary school. Whether singing in the church choir, school concerts, and then eventually rapping, I’ve always been drawn to anything involving music. I write my own songs and am constantly adding to my catalogue. It can be challenging when you hit a road block or some sort of writer’s block, but I keep on writing, just waiting for the right person to hear what I create and want to sign me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hollywood and the surrounding areas are filled with great places to visit. You have to walk down Hollywood Boulevard to see the walk of fame and Grauman’s Theatre along with all of the interesting characters on the street. A hike under the Hollywood sign, where you can see everything from the city’s old abandoned zoo to people on horseback, to beautiful views is another must. A day trip to one of the beaches–not on a weekend though–would be next on the list. When it comes to restaurants, anything off of the main strip is where I like to go. You have so many choices and basically can eat or drink whatever you want.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandma, who passed away in 2020, is the person who I owe everything to. My mom died when I was 11 months old and my grandma took myself and my siblings in and raised us. She was the constant in my life who dedicated her own life to making sure we were raised up right. She had a strong faith in God and tried to teach us right from wrong. We were a handful, but she never gave up on us.
