We had the good fortune of connecting with Adara Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adara Kay, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“If you can’t do it with feeling, don’t.” -Patsy Cline I think about this quote almost everyday of my life. If I can’t write a song and be passionate about it when I sing it, then I don’t. If I can’t cover a song on stage and have people believe what I am singing about, then I don’t.
It works for every factor of my life in the music industry, and if, one day, I can’t be passionate about what I am doing in the industry, then I won’t.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Born & Raised in Southern Oklahoma, I found her grit and rock energy the first time I stepped on stage in 2018. Since then, I have perfected a high energy performance that watchers will remember down the road. I’ve been able to not only share the stage with other independent artists, but also been able to introduce new songwriters from other states into the Oklahoma music scene. It’s been interesting to hear the journey that my music has taken throughout the years. My first EP, “Why Not,” (2020), has more country elements, while my last one, “Who I Am,” (2021), showcases a heavier sound with a splash of steel slides. My newer songs from 2022 & 2023 have different perspectives on country & rock, what we consider Western Grunge or Y’allternative.
I want people to know that my music is a representation of who I am and who I want to be. While I write, I constantly am inspired to put my own spin on the genres to create a sense of freedom, carefree, and badass affirmations for all to appreciate.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
From Oklahoma to Nashville and back to Oklahoma, There’s been several places I want to introduce to my friends!

In Nashville, of course you have to visit Five Daughters Bakery to start your mornings off right. From then, Broadway is the tourist place that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime, but I love Music Row with Tin Roof, Live Oak, and right down the road, off of Music Square, you can see the labels, record shops, PRO’s and so much more! Plus, all the history that you need more than a whole week to experience it all!

In Oklahoma, Stillwater is the place to be for music. You have the Tumbleweed, Salty Bronc, Outlaws, Willie’s, and more. I recommend starting your day off with Just Wafflin’ or Granny’s Kitchen. Make sure you check out Daisy if You Do Co. for the best jewelry & clothing styles that are a little Punchy.
Not to mention Brockton or Tulsa… That’s a whole other week to enjoy!

In my hometown, Mill St Tavern has your fix for food, drinks & live entertainment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people that I could shoutout– My husband for always supporting me while I drag him to different venues in different states. My parents & family, who constantly put money towards my band getting better equipment, pulling the trailer with our gear, and the constant support. Lastly, my fans. Without fans, I wouldn’t survive in this industry, for there wouldn’t be an industry. They are the reason we get booked at venues & festivals, the reason we have streams on platforms, and the reason we continue to play.
