We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Stamper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maggie, what makes you happy? Why?
First off, I’m happy because I have a God who loves me. I love the hope that I have. I love knowing that when I sleep and when I rise, God watches me. I love taking what he has freely given me and giving it back to others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I had to overcome several hurtles. My lack of confidence stood in the way several times. I didn’t think I was capable in launching a business in restoring cast iron. I didn’t know what that would look like and I didn’t want to be laughed at. I was afraid that I would humiliate myself. After launching my business, I realized there were several people out there who really wanted to know how to or have their cast iron restored. What was the history behind this piece? What is the age? How do I take care of my heirloom? How do I cook in my cast iron skillet?

The questions were endless!

Since 2017, I have been absolutely amazed in the amount of people who have supported my business.
I’m thankful and deeply moved.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest, I don’t like crowds or have a list of things to do. I love being in remote places. On our family farm, I love hiking to a hill that I absolutely love! I gave this hill a name when I was a little girl, Dick Ellem’s hill. Mammie told me about a man who was teased because he was different. He lived on top of the hill by himself. I never forgot the story. When I have the time to hike the trail to Dick Ellem’s hill, I would stay there for an hour. The view is stunning. A little bluff I sit on, overlooks many of the ridges along the hill. Down below, you can see the creek water twisting and turning. The occasion leaf or twig bouncing along the current of the creek.

I would carry any friend of mine to sit and enjoy the scenery at the bluff. Get lost in the scenery and allow your mind to be captured with God’s creation.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Along the way, there have been so many people that add on to the building blocks of my business. I can single out one person. I’ve had so many people who have helped me in my journey. I always share stories about the impact Mammie (my grandmother), had in my life. She inspired me to work hard, despite the trial. To show grit when you don’t feel your very best. Do with what you have and be proud about what you’ve accomplished. I think we look too much at our neighbor’s life, that we tend to lose track of our own accomplishments. Mammie always stoped to notice her accomplishments. She didn’t use words like, “I’m so proud of myself for doing this!” Rather, she would take in the moment by laughing and staring at what she did! She took in the moment.

I’ve had to learn to do the same. Stand, smile, and take the moment in.
