We had the good fortune of connecting with Lamont Livingston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lamont, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We wanted to create something special and unique. It was our desire to share our love of all things creative through scent. We also wanted something that we could do as a family. Something our kids would enjoy doing, creating and elevating as the business and their lives progressed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our candles are made through the stories that moments hold rather than the scent of the candle. None of our candles are basic in smell, story or moment. We take pride in having the customer use all five senses when engaging in our product. It is our desire to leave you enchanted with the experience you light and to take you away, even if just for an hour. In this journey we have been so proud of watching people create their own moment through our candles. Hearing the stories, they relive as they smell them. Watching their faces light up as they remanence on a fond memory.

Getting to this point professionally, was not easy. It came with a lot of trial and error and loss. Finding the right blends, tools, techniques and wax was a challenge. We moved here in 2019. Shortly after moving and starting our jobs, COVID hit, and the world shut down. In that time, we created the steppingstones to A Moment. We knew no one here in Nashville when we started but we did not let that stop us from going forward. In this journey, we learned that the unknown is not bad. Failing sucks but is necessary and that if you have something special. something that can spark joy, share it. It may be just the thing someone needs in that moment.

Our business was born out of a love of all things creative, all things that spark conversation and the ability to merge culture and family. We are more than a candle company. We are moment curators and story tellers through scent. We are committed to setting a unique experience in every burn.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question. We would have brunch at Pinewood social so that we could eat and bowl. Take a walk while in the area and see all the views of the city. We would catch up over coffee at Oye Coffee Co and take the kids to love circle to run around. We would hit up all the museums and go for a tour of the city with United Street Tours. Visit the local places on Jefferson Street and get a cupcake from the Cupcake Collection in Germantown. Grab pizza from Slim and Huskys and take a stroll at Fisk to see the beautiful architecture. Do an art crawl and check out local artist. Visit the Farmers Market in Nashville and see the beach in Old Hickory. Maybe even take a drive to a winery or learn to blow glass.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We could not be here without the love and support of our family, friends and mentor. They were instrumental in giving us the push and encouragement to even start the business. They were our first customers, critics and cheerleaders. The love and warm embrace of kind souls in Nashville through markets, events, pop ups and just face to face interactions have made creating here the best choice. Thank you
