Meet Rea Frey | Bestselling Author & Book Doula

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rea Frey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Over 80% of ALL people want to write a book, but so many of us don’t know where to start or how to make it happen. As a published author myself, I have insight to help others navigate this industry in a way that really works. Because there isn’t a one-size-fits-all with publishing, I can help others “birth” their books into the world in a strategic way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a creative helping other creatives, I’ve learned so many invaluable lessons along the way. A published author myself, it is always such a thrill to see my work find its way into the world, onto a bookshelf, or in a reader’s hands. (If you want to know the ONE thing I wish I’d known before I got published, you can read more about that here: https://www.writersdigest.com/getting-published/the-one-thing-i-wish-id-known-before-i-got-published)
Once I realized I wanted to be a writer, I quickly discovered there were a lot of classes and info about the craft but NONE about the business. How did one get published? How did one get paid? How was I supposed to make a career out of this thing that so many view as nothing more than a hobby?
I’ve learned that if you’re a creative wanting to put your art into the world, then you are an entrepreneur. Period. Your book is a product and publishing is a business. When I started my business as a book doula helping first-time authors, public figures, and celebrities get their books into the world, I treated them all the same way. We scaled it way back and focused on three main questions:
1. Why do you want to be published?
2. What publication path is right for you?
3. What’s the process for getting your work into the world?
Starting with your WHY gets us to understand the need to get your book into the world. To date, I’ve helped hundreds of authors usher their work into the world, and it is always such a thrill to know that someone can come to me with an idea… and leave with a book.
It’s magic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Daily schedule… Ice bath and breath journey at my house
Hike at Beaman Park
Breakfast and coffee at Bagelshop Donelson
Lunch and hang at Soho House
Yoga at Hola Yoga Studio
Walk around Opryland Hotel (especially around the holidays)
Ice skating at Centennial
Dinner at Lyra

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shoutout to all the creatives who are brave enough to put their work into the world. We need your stories. All of them. And to the readers who have been kind enough to read my stories over the years… thank you.
