We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherita Golden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cherita, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is often seen as scary but having the strength to create a different path is one of the most courageous acts.

When I was laid off from my comfortable, corporate America job I had a decision to make. I had always maintained my own business outside of work, but suddenly I was forced to make a choice: Choose myself and build my own future or continue to build someone else’s. I decided to bet on me! I trusted in my vision for my life and I knew that if I created my own lane nobody could take it from me.

I encourage all of our readers to examine their hearts and see where they can take a risk in their own lives. Trust in the power of YOU!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to create beautiful, long lasting nail art. I feel each set is its own bit of magic and tells its own story. The name ‘Kouture Tips’ is a nod to the couture fashion of the fashion industry. The designer gowns and garments of modeling world inspires my creative imagination. I’m excited to continue to collaborate and connect with other designers and artists in the industry.

Professionally, I obtained my manicurist license to ensure the health and safety of all my clients and community. I feel it’s important for our women to have technicians and artists who can create beautiful art but also care about the health of their natural nails. Obtaining my license was a rewarding experience and I am proud of the foundation I have to continue to build.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Memphis is such a diverse and beautiful city, with a heartbeat all its own! I’d start with breakfast at Eggxactly Breakfast & Deli and enjoy their delicious chicken and waffles, don’t forget the Eggxactly sauce! Then we’d support my Sorors of Shelby County Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in a community service event, that’s what we’re all about! After that, we’d enjoy lunch at Chef Tam’s Underground Cafe. No matter what you order you’ll be satisfied but you have to try the seafood Mac & Cheese & don’t forget the red Kool-Aid! Then we’d enjoyed a superior stick from the Cigarden, beautiful Black Woman owned Cigar Bar.
To commemorate the evening, we have got to attend a Cynthia Daniels & Company Event. Whether it’s the Elixir, The Garden Party, The New Year’s Trap Ball or any Cynthia Daniels Party you are sure to be entertained and have a memorable evening!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to ShoutOut Ms. Betina Holloway, the owner of B Extended Hair Salon. She cultivated the space for me to grow my nail clientele within her hair salon. She creates and maintains a positive & professional environment for young Black Women entrepreneurs in the beauty industry and I am forever grateful for her! She deserves a ShoutOut and continued support from our Memphis community!
