Meet Gracie Dorr | Wedding Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gracie Dorr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gracie, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important thing that has contributed to my success has by far been following my own vision. It’s so easy to get caught up in comparing yourself or your work to others and if they are doing great, well maybe I should just make my work look like theirs so people book me. I quickly realized that I don’t enjoy filming or editing to fit someone else’s mould. It quickly leads to burnout through a lack of creativity. The absolute best thing you can do is trust the process. Do it how you want and trust the process.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Every story has challenges and failures, and if they don’t they are lying! I have my fair share of struggles but I think what keeps pushing me is 1. obviously the fact that I get to make my own schedule and work for myself but 2. I LOVE giving people the emotional gift that is a wedding video. There is no better feeling in the world when someone raves about your creation and vision of them on a super important day.
I’ve learned to trust myself and film how I want to and edit how I like it and not to compare my work too hard to others because we are all so different and that’s what makes this industry work so well.
As far as my brand or my story, I just want the world to know that my love language is acts of service so I am always going above and beyond for my couples and my creative friends. I love what I do and I don’t think I could imagine myself doing anything else. I’m also always super emotional and sentimental so I feel like I fit my job pretty well 🙂
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Marietta, West Cobb to be exact. The Marietta square is always a classic. So many restaurants and bars! If you’re looking for something more holistic, Kennesaw mountain is right down the road with numerous parks and pull offs to have a picnic or go hiking or just go for an evening stroll.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course my family is a huge support group but I LITERALLY could not do any of this without the great group of peers and co-creatives that are in my area. They answer all of my questions and we talk about struggles and successes and cheer each other on. Everyone truly wants each other to succeed.
