We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Wyatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In the beginning of my career, I was trying so many ways to balance business and personal time but I always ended up giving less time and attention to the personal portion of my life. What I’m realizing now is that as I’m intentionally slowing down and taking more time on the tasks that matter (and outsourcing the things I don’t need to do) it’s much more efficient and creates more time for my personal life. My buddy, Kory Brunson, told me once, “you have to slow down to speed up.”

I believe the way you “slow down to speed up” is to start by evaluating WHY you’re doing what you’re doing. If you have a family, they need to come before the business. Do you live to work or work to live? Set your priorities in their rightful place and then build your schedule around that, starting with what the top priorities are. After that, begin to build healthy practices in your business that have you working ON your business rather than IN it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart: We offer an experience to our artists that most other producers don’t offer. We spend A LOT of time with each of our artists, helping them get the music just they way then want it. There are too many music mills in Nashville. We aren’t one of them. We also really focus on the development of our artists and their careers, guiding them through the process to save them time and money. We don’t just want to make high quality music, we want to see our artists succeed!

What are we most proud of or excited about: As a company, we are seeing our goals come into view. We are helping artists walk through the process of becoming healthy, entrepreneurial business people. It’s really working and we are watching our artists’ careers really take off.

How did we get where we are today: Business is never easy. The only way to get through it is perseverance, diligence, keeping yourself healthy (mind, heart and spirit) and always realizing that you have to passionately believe in what you are doing because if you don’t, no one else will be either.

Lesson: Don’t assume that when you go after something you feel passionate about and turn it into a business, it means it’s going to be easy and that you can’t expect push back. Business is hard whether you’re passionate about what you do or not. Sometimes it’s even harder when you’re passionate about what you do because it means that much more to you.

What do we want the world to know: Our business is honest, authentic, hard fought and high quality. We don’t cut corners. We are intentional and we sow ourselves into not only the product but also the experience each artist gets when they come to us. You don’t just get great music, you get a team.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend in town, take them to get a brewed coffee at Frothy Monkey or a latte at Crema Coffee and then eat Hot Chicken for lunch at Princes in Downtown Nash. We’d head down to Franklin to check out the bullet holes in the sides of the buildings at the Civil War sites and maybe catch a live show at the Franklin Theatre. Then we’d walk the square in Columbia and admire the architecture and history and look for unicorn locals to ask them about their lives. There’s something very special about this part of the country. Is it the conservative values? Is it the faith people have? We’d connect with the PEOPLE and find out what makes them tick.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Tipping Point is a really great book that really impacted me. It helped me to not be frustrated and give up in the middle of the hard work because it takes a long time to see the fruits of your labors when you’re building a company. Press on!
