We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was “is this the part in my life where I don’t want to work under someone else anymore?” I saw my sister in law, Mary and my brother, Keith, thrive from having their own businesses and seeing what it took to be successful, I knew I could do it too. After finishing school and having my esthetician license for 2 years, I felt I was ready to step out on faith and start my own business. With God in my corner, I was right.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Refreshef Skin Studio, is an esthetics studio which focuses only on skincare. I like to think of my business as a facial spa! Esthetics is very broad, but I focus mainly on skincare treatments. In my business, I have a range of different types of facials including microdermabrasions, dermaplaning, anti-aging, acne, radio frequency and my signature facial which is my top seller.

My goal is to get everyone’s skin healthy or maintain the healthiness of their skin and do my best to educate them on their particular skin type or concerns. Your face is the first thing people see and I believe if your have healthy, glowy skin, your self-esteem will be better and you will walk and talk differently and be proud to be seen and heard.

I also like to take a proactive approach versus an aggressive approach to my skincare treatments and I believe I’m here to educate people of how to properly take care of their skin.

Like I touched on previously, I like to think of my business as a facial spa! When you arrive, I have a steamy hot towel ready for you to cleanse your hands and face before we start your treatment. In my studio, I also use high end essential oils to give that 5 star spa aroma. We discuss your skin goals, what treatment is needed and your at-home care as well. Home care is the most important part of any skin treatment. My clients see me every 4-6 weeks but if you’re not consistent in your home skin care, your results will take longer and you may get discouraged.

Overall, I want all of my clients to a 5 star experience! We laugh, talk about our goals or just relax and don’t speak at all. My goal is to cater to all of my clients needs so I can continue to see them on a regular basis.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were in town here in Memphis, I would definitely take them to a nice restaurant with great cocktails. I’m a foodie, so I like to explore the new restaurants that pop up in the area or even stop by the ones that have been here for a while. Coastal Fish Company has a great selection of seafood and crafted cocktails and you can’t beat the scenery! I love Asian food also, so if we wanted to get a quick bite, I would recommend going to Pho Saigon for a bowl of pho. They have the best in my opinion.

Now downtown Memphis is another area I visit often. They have some great bars which include BarWare and Esco. I’ve been digging going to the hotel bars downtown which are the Hyatt Centric on Beale St and Caption by Hyatt. They have a great atmosphere and tasty food and drinks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to my entire family especially my mother, Paula Watson. She is my rock and biggest supporter! She was there in the beginning when I got off from my day job and went straight to esthetic school at night. She was there to help me out with my son Landon when I wasn’t there. I can definitely say I wouldn’t be this far in life without her.
