We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicki Sarra Halford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicki, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been interested in all kinds of art. When I was a kid, I was constantly drawing and painting. That love of visual art has never left me, although I have spent a lot of time in my teenage and adult years focusing on music. However, I think I needed to have a mixture of different types of creative outlets in my life, and while I was focusing solely on music, I missed visual art. That is really where my desire to create jewelry came from. I have found that I am happiest and most creative when I am involved in different types of art. Because of that, I think deep down I always knew that I would be in some sort of creative or artistic career, because I knew I wouldn’t be happy doing anything else long term!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Faint of Heart started in my dorm room as just this wild dream of mine to start a creative business. In my opinion, the most important lesson that I’ve learned is to be true to myself and my art, and to be resilient and determined. There is a lot of trial and error in starting a business, but I’ve found that when I’m determined to continue learning and growing, that is when I am most successful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here are my favorite places in Memphis:

-I would definitely recommend visiting Crosstown Concourse, as it is one of my favorite places in town. The modern and artsy architecture is so fun, and it feels like a village within a building.
-downtown walks along the river
-historical/educational landmarks like the Lorraine Motel & Civil Rights Museum.
-Backbeat Tours – a bus tour where you learn Memphis history and your guide sings to you! My husband did this for a while and it was always so fun to go on his tours.
-FOOD. Memphis is a foodie city. Here are just some of my favorite places:
-Abyssinia Ethiopian
-Gus’s fried chicken
-rendezvous or central barbecue
-tops barbecue (for the burger)
-highland super submarine
-India palace
-Hen House

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been so supportive of all of my artistic endeavors!
