Meet Krissy Bodnovich | Social Media Marketing Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krissy Bodnovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krissy, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I saw a need, and that’s how my business was created.
I am from a small town in West Virginia. After moving to Nashville, I got to see the power of good marketing. I saw businesses flourishing and marketing agencies charging top dollar for their expertise in making that happen. I’d visit back home and see small businesses struggling, and it made me wonder why. The business owners had great intentions and wanted to serve their community, but the marketing just wasn’t there. They just didn’t have the marketing background to get the word out, nor did they have the budget to hire one of those top-dollar agencies… Not that they even exist in my hometown. I knew this was happening more than just in my town, and I wanted to help other entrepreneurs and small business owners market themselves and their businesses at an affordable cost.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Social Media Marketing Consultant, and the path to get here has not been linear.
When I first started my business, I was taking on social media management clients. Business was great, however, I had maxed out my time and underpriced my services. I had set financial goals for myself and in order to reach those goals, I’d have to hire a team, and I was not interested in that. After all, my business was Krissy Bodnovich – Social Media Marketing Specialist.
After taking a step back to re-evaluate how things were going, I realized that the route I was currently on was not scalable. I transitioned into the consulting business, where I could teach others how to manage their own social networks. I still love the art of social media marketing and I’ve found that the best way to stay up-to-date on these everchanging platforms is to manage clients’ accounts. I still have a few clients which I do that for, but those spots are limited, and consulting is the core of my business now.
I’ve learned so many lessons along the way. If I could go back, here’s a few things I’d do differently;
1. Don’t work for free or under-price your services. Your time is just as valuable as anyone else’s.
2. Don’t be afraid to step back and pivot when necessary. That’s when growth happens.
3. Don’t wait til you’re ready to take the leap into entrepreneurship. You’re never going to be “ready”. Just do it.
4. Don’t fear the lack of job security. You’re an at-will employee at your 9-5 as it is. There’s no more job security there than there is working for yourself.
5.Have confidence in yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow, there are so many great places in this city.
Controversial opinion, but you can’t come to Nashville and not go to Broadway. Yes, you’ll overpay for a drink in an overcrowded bar, but you’ll see some of the most talented singers who are just trying to make a name for themselves.
If you feel like getting out of the city and away from the crowds, head north to the suburbs. Chef’s Market and Chocolate Covered Strawberry are my two favorite restaurants in Goodlettsville and Gallatin.
If you ever see tickets to a songwriter event, snag them while you can! These types of events are so unique to Nashville and so much fun. It’s interesting to hear the backstory of a song from the actual writers. Award shows are the same way! Go if you have the opportunity.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have gotten started without the encouragement from my friend and #1 hype woman, Michelle Riley Snyder, Founder of Fierce & Fit. She took the leap into entrepreneurship before I did and was my biggest motivator to launch my business. Even after my launch, she continuously checked in with me, pushed me to grow my business, and connected me with her circle of entrepreneurs who could benefit from my services.
Another person whom I owe a lot of my success is Kathryn Good, CEO & Founder of Good Circle Marketing. Kathryn and I met back in 2013. Our paths crossed again in 2021 at a charity event where she talked about our businesses. After a quick discussion, it was clear that we could both benefit from joining forces. Kathryn Good Marketing has transformed into Good Circle Marketing, where I am the Lead Social Consultant and joined by a team of other marketing expert consultants.
